try reinstalling the firmware get the latest firmware from sony and the flashing utility and use that

If your mp3 is flash card based, you may need to just replace the card. If your mp3 player is hard-drive based, the hard drive may be bad. Usually those can be replaced by the consumer as well.

Press the Reset button of your player (if it has one).

If this still won't turn on, go to the Sony Support Center to download a firmware software for your player.
But first, you should go to the Device Manager and search for your player's icon. Then click on the icon, click Properties, then click on the Driver tab, and then click on Update Driver. Don't let the wizard to search for the driver on Windows Update, nor let the wizard search for the driver automatically. But choose Don't search. I will choose a driver to install. Then select USB Mass Storage (first uncheck Show compatible hardware, if checked). Click Next, and then the wizards installs the driver.

Now you may open the firmware software application. The wizard installs the firmware on your player. Then click on the device icon on My Computer. If Windows asks you to format it, then click on Yes.
Format it using FAT. If that didn't work with FAT, use FAT32. Then unplug the device (Do not open the browser after you formatted the device using Windows).

Turn it on, and you're done!

Good luck, and Happy Holidays.

Just plug it in onto the computer and delete the songs using Windows Explorer or Macintosh (if you have one).

Good luck and Happy Holidays.

Does the device turn on when connected to the computer? If so, press RESET button on your device and then try again. If the problem continues, you may want to go to the Sony Support Center and download the firmware software for your device.

Hope it works.

Good luck and Happy Holidays.

If you just deleted the Music folder with all of the music files together, then you may want to recreate the Music folder. If it's already there, then you may want to reinstall the firmware software on the Sony Support Center.

Good luck and Happy Holidays.

The Installation CD is not required. You just open the player folder and drag your songs onto the windows.

Just in case if unable to show device icon:
If you have Windows 95 or 98, you may want to upgrade to later versions of Windows (2000, XP, Vista or later).

Hope that'll work.

Good luck and Happy Holidays.

Sorry to hear that. Just press the RESET button to see if it solves the problem. If not, go to the Sony Support Center online.

Good luck, and Happy Holidays.

If this installation CD contains a software in order to put your music on your player, then you don't need it. You just drag your music files onto the player using Windows Explorer.

Good luck, and Happy Holidays.
