Message light is blinking I have a vtech IA5823- I recently switched phone companies, and now the display shows "message waiting" and a light on the phone is blinking. This never happened before. When I dial my home number, it asks me for a PIN NO. I do not remember setting up a PIN NO. How do I get my message?
Problem when dialing phone I have a 2 handset Uniden phone system and a vTech ia5823. Recently (within the last few weeks) the vTech has started acting funny. Sometimes it doesn't ring at all, sometimes it rings "late". Lately it won't let me dial out. I begin dialing the phone number (area code first) and before I finish dialing the exchange I hear the message from the phone company "We're sorry. Your call cannot be completed as dialed..." I can immediately pick up one of the Uniden handsets and dial the same number (at the same speed) and it will work fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Slow to dial, dropping out going calls and now the base light is flashing at a rapid pace and will not charge the handset.
I want to return it to Wal-Mart but have misplaced the recepit.
I will never buy another V-Tech..Uniden is the way to go!
I have a phone from Vtech But I am can not fingues out why it wil not let me set the anwser machine and I have a voange. Any clue want to do?

We have the message "line We have the message "line in use" on all three handsets and the light constantly blinks on the base. All handsets are in their bases. When we push the talk button, there is a buzzing noise instead of a dial tone.
Have you confirmed that a second phone (preferably a basic corded phone with no power adapter) has a dial tone?
If you have a dial tone with another phone and the other basic steps did not fix your problem, then the Vtech phone system needs to be repaired. These phones are not made for the consumer to fix. If it is under warranty (1 year), call 1 (800) 595-9511 to arrange for a warranty repair. It will take 30 days or so to get the unit repaired/replaced. If it is out of warranty, determine if the phones are worth the repair costs to you.
My dial tone problems have been with the phone line. Here is my trouble shooting guide:
First you need to check if the problem is with the line or the Vtech phone. I like to use an old rotary phone for testing but any basic corded phone should work. Get a new RJ-11 phone cable as well.
Unplug the base unit and plug in the test phone to that jack. Check if you get a dial tone. (Try a new cable if the initial one doesn't work.) If your test phone has a dial tone, then the problem is isolated to the Vtech CS6229.
If you do not get the dial tone, you need to track down the wiring issue. Next move to another jack on the phone line and check if there is a dial tone on your test phone. If there is a dial tone, you have isolated the problem to the jack or the wiring to the jack.
If there is still no dial tone, find where your telephone service comes in to your building. If you can, open the box. Determine the type of connection used there. If you are lucky, you will find a RJ-11 jack for your phone line. Plug in your test phone and check for a dial tone. If there is no dial tone, contact your telephone provider. They will fix this outside problem for free.
If the connection is not a RJ-11 jack, you will need to call the telephone company so that they can determine if the problem is inside or outside.
If you do have a dial tone, then the problem is with the inside wiring. Inspect the visible wires for damage. Open the faceplates for the jacks and check for loose wires. There are two types of connectors. Screw type connectors need the wire stripped back a little then wrap around the screw and tighten. The other type is a punchdown jack. To repair a loose wire in this, you will need a punchdown tool. These are often available in hardware/home improvement stores in the wiring section. http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx has clear pictures of the wire color to pin pattern.
You may want a professional to check the wires inside the walls. Your telephone provider will do this for a fee.

You may need to reset your telephone system:

Step 1: Disconnect the power to the telephone base.
Step 2: Disconnect the handset battery.
Step 3: Wait a few minutes and then reconnect the power to the telephone base.
Step 4: Reconnect the handset battery
Step 5: Wait about one minute for the handset to re-establish a link with the telephone base and then test the phone again.
NOTE: After resetting the telephone system, you will need to reset the clock. If the time is not set, you will hear Time and Day Not Set when you listen to messages.
NOTE: If you have caller ID service, the time will automatically be updated whenever caller ID information is delivered. However, since caller ID delivers the date, rather than the day, you must program the year once so the system can derive the day of the week.
To set the day and time, confirm that the answering system is turned on and then complete the following steps:
Step 1: Press CLOCK. The system will announce the current setting.
Step 2: Press CLOCK again. The system will announce the current day setting.
Step 3: Press SKIP or REPEAT on the base until you hear the correct day.
Step 4: Press CLOCK. The system will announce the current hour setting.
Step 5: Press SKIP or REPEAT on the base until you hear the correct hour.
Step 6: Press CLOCK. The system will announce the current minute setting.
Step 7: Press SKIP or REPEAT on the base until you hear the correct minute.
NOTE: Pressing and holding SKIP or REPEAT will increment the minutes or years by 10.
Step 8: Press CLOCK. The system will announce the current year setting.
Step 9: Press SKIP or REPEAT on the base until you hear the correct year.
Step 10: Press CLOCK to confirm. The system will announce the new time and day setting followed by a confirmation beep.
