I have a similar issue with my VTech 5871 battery not holding a charge. I am going to try cleaning the battery leads as well as the phone to base unit leads with a pencil eraser and see if that helps at all.

One by one both of my Vtech IP 8100 phones have gone into permanent "Searching..... mode." Removed batteries and unplugged the base station but no joy. Unregistered Base ID numbers from handsets, despite saving the Base ID number in each handset now all they say is Enter Base ID. Keep entering Base ID but no change. I reset the base station but to no avail. Bought these phones new in Feb 2009.

After Registering a 3rd handset into my IP8100-2 base unit and making one successful phonecall on the new handset, I lost both the Vonage service as well as my Comcast cable Internet connection. The Ready light turned solid red also.
Disconnecting the base unit got me back Comcast Internet, but reconnecting it takes Internet away (and the Vonage phones still wouldn't work).
I've rebooted both the Comcast cable modem and the VTech base unit, but the issue still persists.
Any help/info would be much appreciated!
