I have a hp compaq

The date and time battery is normally a CR2032 which is pretty cheap. It can be found on the motherboard in a small carrier. Eject the old battery and insert the new one then set the date and time. The second problem with it shutting down after 4 minutes sounds like poor cooling on the CPU or a bad PSU.

My HP D530C does not power on. The power LED flashes 4 times. What is the fault? Pls let me know asap. Thanks.

HP xw6200 Workstation - Diagnostic LED Code: Four Flashes ISSUE: When the workstation is powered on, the front LED might flash red four times, once per second, followed by a two second pause. SOLUTION: The front LED flashing four times is a sign of a power failure. To fix this issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Open the access panel, and check to see if the four-wire power supply cable is properly connected to the system board.
  2. There may be a faulty device. Locate it by removing all devices and then reinstalling them one at a time until the workstation fails. Replace the device causing the failure. Continue adding devices to ensure all are functioning properly.
  3. Verify the power supply functionality, as follows:
    1. Disconnect AC power.
    2. Remove all internal power supply cables from the system board.
    3. Plug in AC power.
      • If the power supply fan spins, and the BIST LED illuminates, then the power supply is good. Replace the system board.
      • If the power supply fan does not spin, or the BIST LED does not illuminate, replace the power supply.

214-Dimm Config Warning

Just had same problem. Found a solution:I have an old HP Compaq dc5000MT. It has 4 RAM slotsHere's what DIDN'T work:1gb + 1gb + 512mb + 512mb1gb + 512mb + 512mb + 1gb512mb + 1gb + 1gb + 512mbHere's what DID work:1gb + 512mb + 1gb + 512mbI'm sure that:512mb + 1gb + 512mb + 1gb would probably work as well. From my guess they're are 2 "channels" (slots 1&2 are channel 1, slots 3&4 are channel 2) and you have to keep the amount of RAM balanced on both slots and in the same order.Another thing to note with the old XP OS. IT ONLY WORKS WITH 3GB or RAM. MAX. So 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 (4gb) WILL NOT WORK... PERIOD for XP. Vista, 7, 8 etc. allows you to use a ton more ram + readyboost. They need all the help they can get though since they are major resource hogs.

Have a d530c tower how

Hi richo64
It seems your motherboard is not equiped with Sata plots :
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11632_na/11632_na.HTML.
If this is the case , you need to purchase a PCI Sata controller card with at least one internal Sata plot .
Disconnect power plug and make sure you are not static electrically loaded . Open tower by removing side panel . Install PCI card on an available PCI plot inside your tower . You will also need to acquire a Molex/Sata converting power cable and a Sata interface cable . Once done , install your Sata drive in an available place in your desktop and connect the cables .
Start your pc . If you have kept the old Pata drive in operation , immediatelly and repeatedly hit a F key ( often Fi or F3 or F8 , it depends on the machine ) to acces bios , select the Sata drive and fix the boot priorities .
Sata controller cards and cables are easy to find by googleling on the net or in any computer shop .
Best regards ,
fanaudi .

Its D51s. it gives one long beep and two short

Beep codes vary but 1 long and 2 short usually indicate a video problem. Since your problem began with removing the ram try this. Remove the memory modules again and re-seat firmly. If you notice the memory channels are dusty blow them out before re-seating. Hope this solves your problem.

If a PC suddenly fails to boot properly, you should perform a hard reset as the first action. Performing the hard reset will correct many problems. If the computer still does not start properly, select your symptom from the list below to guide you to the recommended corrective actions.
  1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and SD media cards. You want to test the computer not the accessories!
  2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain all residual power and restore default startup settings.
  3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not insert the battery), Press the Power button, Look for glowing LEDs near caps lock and num lock keys, and Listen for sounds of a fan or other moving parts turning.
  4. If the computer does not start, the LED lights do not glow, and the display is black, you can perform one or more of the following actions to resolve the no power issue.
    • Verify the computer is receiving power from the AC adapter . Verify that the AC adapter is not damaged and is connected correctly to a working wall outlet plug. Verify AC power is connected to the system board by examining the AC adapter, wiring, and pin connection for damage. The keyboard LEDs will glow when AC power is connected to the system board. Damaged components, like the AC adapter or the pin in the power connector, may require an HP-certified repair.
    • Use a different AC power adapter . If you have access to a different AC adapter or power pack that is designed for the computer, connect it to the notebook and try to start the computer. If you own or have access to more than one notebook, verify that you are using the adapter which belongs to the notebook. CAUTION: Using a power adapter that does not meet the power requirements or has the wrong type of connector may damage the computer. On newer notebook models, connecting the wrong adapter to the notebook may cause the power LED lights to blink but not power the computer.
    • Remove the battery and boot on AC power only . A discharged or defective battery may prevent the AC adapter from supplying enough power to start the computer. To verify that power from the AC adapter is available for PC; remove the battery, connect AC power adapter, and press power button. If available, try using a different AC adapter, that is rated for the PC, and repeat this test.
    • Remove the AC adapter and boot on battery power only . A defective AC adapter may not charge the battery and prevent the computer from booting on battery power only. To verify battery power available for the PC; connect AC power adapter, allow battery to charge for 30 minutes or more, disconnect the power adapter and press power button. If available, try using a fully charged battery, of the same type, from another computer and repeat this test.
      • If LEDS do not glow and the fan or hard drive do not spin, battery may need to be replaced.
      • If tests of both the battery and the AC adapter fail, there may be a problem with system board requiring service by HP.
      • If LEDs glow and PC boots, the AC adapter may need to be replaced.
      • If LEDs glow, but PC does not boot go to LEDs glow, fan is heard, but display is black or blank section.

My uncle's hp compaq d530c will start up show wind...

Hi,

Turn the computer off and then disconnect all the external devices like (printer, usb devices etc)connected to the computer along with the cable for the internet .Then disconnect the cable for power that would be right on top at the back panel of the computer tower and with the power cable disconencted press and hold the power button for atleast 30 seconds.Turn the computer on if it takes you to the desktop then it means that there is some external device that is causing the computer not to come up to the desktop so find which deveice has gone bad check it by conecting one device at a time.

Next thing that you can try is turn the computer off and then when you turn the computer on or as soon as you press the power button to turn the computer on start tapping the F8 key repeatedly until you get a black screen that says advance boot menu option .Then used the arrow keys on the keyboard and then hit enter, select the operating system and then when you get the log on screen select administrator .If it takes you to the desktop then you can try doing a restore by going to start?all programs ?accessories?system tools and then system restore ? select the date when you think that you r computer was working fine and then click on next next to exit from the wizard.Should fix the issue .

If it takes you to the desktop and the restore does not work then go to ?start?run?type in msconfig?when the system configurtation utility page loads up the go to the startup tab click on disable all?apply ?go to the services tab?disable all?apply and ok to close the page and then restart the computer. If it takes you to the desktop then go to msconfig click on enable all for startup ,restart the computer .If it boots up normally to the desktop then there is a service unders services that is causing the problem,so we need to isolate the service that is is corrupt .Select a group of services and the restart if it does not boot the computer to the desktop then there is one service among the group that is not letting the computer boot up so check one service at a time and check .Once the faulty service is found let it be unchecked will not be a problem.

If the computer does not boot up to the desktop then without wasting time on any trobleshooting steps recovery needs to be done that takes the computer back to its original factory settings. To do this instead of the f8 key tap the f11 key till you get the screen that says system recovery ?click next until you get the screen that has advance option ?click on it ?select destructive recovery ?click next the recovery will start and the computer will be formated (whatever you have added after you bought the computer would be lost ).If the recovery does not work this was then it needs to be done from the recovery disks and fot that you call call HP...

all the best.....

After upgrading from windows 2000 to windows xp it

The yellow question mark shows a device that windows does not recognize what it is. You may need to install an upgraded driver for whatever you are using to access the internet and then recheck Device Manager. Good luck!

When you unplug power cord it loses it settings

If the battery is good for sure and you tried a different battery just to be sure then you might want to try updating the BIOS. Go into the BIOS and see the version that is in there.

Then go here:

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

Type in your model number and then get to the download page and see what version is on the website. If the version of the BIOS on the website is newer then on your machine then download and install that one.

If you update the BIOS and it still can't keep the settings then you know at that point the motherboard is bad.

The problem is with your RAM. It is either damaged or its not perfectly fit in the slots. Remove it and clean the slots and insert it back. If the problem remains, replace the RAM.

Booting up

one light is for hardrive activity , the other is to show the power is on.. the flashing one is most likely the power light as most computers will tell you when thier ill....the beeping is an error code and should be in some pattern EG: Power LED blinks red twice, once a second, followed by a two second pause. Or something like that. Take note of the pattern and repost it here, then we can give you a specific area to look at.

Hp d530c

Hi NickJames,

I think its your CPU IC. Its overheating and the auto shut safety sequence is being activated and hence this problem. It can also be that the temperature settings in your CMOS setup has been set to a wrong / low setting wherein the PC shuts off even if your CPU warms up a little. Check that by going into CMOS settings. Only after confirming that, have your motherboad checked & also your HDD for a short in the power supply section. Perhaps a capacitor is leaky or short or a diode is short. Send it to an authorised repair center.

Before you go to switch any drive to master, look over you optical drives and other hard drives to make sure they are not set on Cable Select with the jumpers on the back of them. If you have 2 optical drives, set one to master and one to slave, same with you hard drives. If you only have one optical drive then set it to master. The jumper layouts are on the big label stuck to the top of the drive.

After setting the jumpers on them you need to install them. Both IDE cables you have 3 plugs. One connects to the mother board, another to the slave and another to the master. Connect them to their corresponding drives.
