Panasonic DMR-ES40VS DVD Recorder/VCR Questions & Answers
Panasonic dmr-es40v
Ron, F60 is a general error code usually related to a failure on the video processing board. You could fix this by just replacing that board. Try to place it in standby mode first by unplugging it, wait a couple of minutes and then plug it back in. When the 000000's starts, hold down the power button for 15-20seconds. The unit should then be in standby mode. From this mode try to start it normally using the power button and see if it cleared the error. You could also try a complete reset by powering the unit off and press and hold the "Stop" and "Channel Up" buttons at the same time for a few seconds while powering the unit up. Hope this helps, good luck.

My DMR-ES40V Panasonic fell to the carpet dangling
Sadly, that could be the death knell on this unit as something may have broken internally; possibly rendering the unit U/S.
These can be extremely expensive to replace any fractured boards (and other broken parts) in - making the overall repair uneconomical. And in the event of any broken boards/parts replaced, there is no guarantee that the unit will be as reliable after that as when it was new.
If you decide to submit the unit to a service centre, be warned, if you tell them it fell to the floor, they may tell you the same thing as I did above (although they might not put it quite so nicely). Even if you convince them to take on the repair work, it may be expensive; more than the cost of a new DVD recorder.
Up to you, but save yourself the agony (and the expense) - bin this unit or keep it for parts (or try to find a similar WORKING unit on eBay to replace your broken one).
Accidents will happen; most times unavoidably. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Panasonic DMR ES40v
We need to narrow down where the problem lies. Even without finalizing
the disc, you should be able to play back the recording. Can you do
this? If you can play back the recording, the problem exists in the
finalization stage and we'll need to concentrate there. Please update
this and we'll proceed to the next step.
Thanks,
Viper

Cannot Play Commercially Produced DVDs (Panasonic DMR-ES40V)
Dear FixYa Team,
Thanks for your inquiry re my problem.
Since I posted, I THINK I may have solved my problem. I unplugged the unit for an hour or so, plugged it in again, and it DID play a "commercial" DVD that I had tried earlier. I don't know if this is a permanent solution -- we'll see. If not, I'll take the next step in seeking some help.
Thanks again.

Dvd/vcr
It could be a bad cable between your vcr and the TV. See if you can use another cable.

Records snow/static - intermittently
Intermittent problems like this really suck.
I have a simular problem on my Toshiba DVD recorder. Once in a while it just doesn't record anything at all.
Unfortunately, there really is no solution. It sounds like a glitch in
the unit to me. Wether or not it's present in all the units of that
model or just yours, only Panasonic knows for sure.

VHS will not eject tape
So open up the casing and retrieve the tape. I have done it a few times and it is not hard. Not sure if fixing it is worth it. I just buy a new one for cheap.

Sudden split screen
Your dvd player is in progressive mode, and your tv isnt capable of playing progressive mode. To fix this, look on your remote for a button called "Progressive", and press it. If you dont have a button like that, then look through your service manual for anything that says progressive mode, and it should give instructions on how to set it back to interlace mode. This is a very common problem I come across when servicing DVD players, as inadvertently pressing the wrong button the remote will cause this.

Panasonic DMR-ES40VS
I called Panasonic, and they told me to try a reset. I'm sorry, but I forgot which button to push and hold to reset it, but it has worked GREAT ever since! A local shop said it was a loss when I described the problem to them. Call the Panasonic Service Center, and they can tell you how to do a reset.
