Check the belt, Remove the bottom kick panel and clean out the lint. turn the drum and see if it is broken or loose.

The first thing to do is unplug it and take the bottom kick panel off. You will see a lot of lint. Get a vacuum cleaner and clean it out. Then you need to look for the heater box. It comes loose with a couple of screws and you can pull it out. Take a picture of it or write down the wire locations. Take the two wires off that go back into the machine. Then you can take it down and have it tested at an appliance shop.

When there's no power at all (no lights) it's probably not the thermal fuse, but the powersupply fuse or the powersupply itself. If you're tech-savy you can try using a multimeter on the inside connectors of the powersupply to see whether there is any power going to the dryer's circuitry at all. If that's the case; it might be fried internal electronics ...

We just discovered the same problem. The drum is cracked at the seam in the very front of the drum. We are going to call tomorrow because I agree, this seems like a manufacturing defect to me. I'll post the outcome after we talk with Maytag.

I am about to find out! But according to Tim Mereno, which by the way sells the part for 65. said it is not really to difficult! I will let you know.

First thing you need to do is check the Circuit Breaker for the dryer. If it is tripped unplug the dryer and reset the Circuit Breaker. Now plug in the dryer and try to run it. If it does not work again check the Circuit Breaker again if it is tripped again unplug dryer and call someone that can help you or fix it. If the Circuit Breaker is not tripped check for good power readings on both power lines coming into the dryer. Should have 110V or more on each line to neutral, and 220V or more between each line. If you do not have the correct voltage at each line check Circuit Breaker for good power coming out.

Inspect the weld seam in the drum. Mine split in the front leaving a small hole. The thumping is the drum wheels running over the broken seam.

anytime a fuse trips it is due to too much load on a circuit-or over heating-tear down the machine and clean out lint look for it in the ducts that exhausts out of the house and even the outside flap-cheers Denny
