You c annot c apture from tape using a USB cable. You can if you connect using a firewire cable. All miniDV camera will have a firewire socket. It may be called iLink or IEEE1394.

There are no drivers needed- you need to use the DV output (which is actually just a mini firewire 400 port) the other end of this cable is a full sized 6-pin firwire 400 cab;e that should slot into any mac (pre 2009 when some changed to the bigger firewire 800 ports). You cant use the USB. to capture the video, I use final cut pro athlough I'm sure imovie will let you do it.

Did this work before? or is it new? Is the USB cable good?

First thing blow out any dust in the USB socket.
No good? The un-install then re-install driver.

Re-start PC
Good luck

you probably need a driver for it to make the communication possible ..try this one ..
You might also need the software to manage the downloads..if not you willl see the camera in My computer folder like a removable device ..or by its name ..

You can get a manual at:

this link

and computer drivers at:

this link

Then all you need is the computer connection lead that came with your camera.

Hello

Just to clarify, does the footage look something like THIS?

If this is what you are experiencing, it is a result of "Dirty" heads.

If you have a head cleaning tape, run this through as per instructions.
If you don't have one, buy one.
This should fix it.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards
Andrea

Here is how to Install them so they work. Download your XP driver you wish to install. If it's in a zip/rar file then extract it to your desktop. You should have a simple .exe file sitting on your desktop to install the drivers, as normal for XP. Right click the .exe file and select "Properties". Then select the tab called "Compatibility" Now check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Make sure "Windows XP Service Pack 2" is highlighted. Now apply the settings and run the installer. This should work for most drivers, but not all
