Canon PowerShot S3 IS & Windows 7

This is correct. The S3 is discovered by windows 7 and will allow download of pictures by Windows Picture download. The Canon Utilities software - Zoombrowser - will not work with windows 7 as the software cannot detect the Camera via Windows 7.. Also, Camera window will not start, if using the PC/laptop for remote image recording. If you virtualise XP within Windows 7 this still will not work. The only solution at the moment, if you are deperate, like I was (as I use the Remote Capture process a lot), is to either stick with Win Xp or Dual boot XP on a smaller partition.

I have a picture of a padlock in my viewfinder. What does it mean. Should I get rid of it? If so, how?

Hi Brian, the padlock icon signifies a function is locked - eg. auto focus or something similar. You need to read the manual to find out what it really represents. Removing it will depend on your preference but first find out.

I want to upload my photos to my computer. It used to work but not nom. What Can I do?

Your computer probably isn't recognizing the camera. You might try inserting the SD card into a card reader. Your computer may recognize that and allow you to download the pics. Also, if you have the software that came with your S3 IS you could try reinstalling it on your computer. I had to do that a couple of times and it worked.

Will the graph print on the pictures

No. The histogram is simply an aid to taking better photographs. It will not print when you print your picture.

What should I do, memory card error....in locked position?

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My camera will download images to my computer

And if it does not want to download the pictures, just install Zoombrowser EX. You still can download this software from the Canon website. The drivers you need, are also there. Without the appropriate software, no computer knows what you are connecting. We are so used to smart phones and tablets that we think all things are detected correct when connected. In the days the Powershot S3 computers still needed drivers and software. Most computers still do.

Can't connect camera to computer

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Camera beeps but won't turn on

You are sure the battery is still ok? Please don't try to switch on the camera as long as it is connected to a power supply or a computer with the USB cable, because it won't switch on that way. Only with a correctly charged battery. Read other post of me to find out what to do with your battery, or just ask if you can't go on.

When I turn on the camera, it ask me to set date and time

You can try and get a specialist repairer to change the battery, these are precision items and difficult to repair yourself. I would just live with it.

I have a problem with my Canon S31s - Each time I

Why not try a set of rechargeable batteries? they can be used 5 times as long as alkaline batteries, every time you charge them. And when you have charged them yourself you can be sure they doe have the capacity needed for the camera. There is no way of telling alkaline batteries are full, because even when they are exhausted they will give the same voltage on your multimeter as a new battery. I don't think it has to do with the date battery, because that would show you the date / time menu on the display.

At all shutter speeds? Does it appear consistent? Does the shutter stay open more or less the same amount of time even if you change the shutter speed?
