My Camera: Canon PowerShot SD770 IS Digital Camera

Went to the beach yesterday, by the end of the night my camera gave me this error: "lens error, restart camera". The lens would no longer come out.

I figured sand got stuck within the lens, so I did the following:

1. Turn camera up-side-down (with lens facing down)
2. Gently tap the sides of the camera (to loosen particles in lens)
3. Turn camera on
4. The lens will eventually come out
5. Gently tap the sides of the lens
6. Turn camera off (continue tapping side of lens as it retracts)

I turned the camera on and off a couple of times to ensure I removed all sand particles from the camera.

Now the camera works...thank god.

My son knocked the camera out of my hand and it hit the floor from about 3 feet. After that, the lens was stuck open and I got the message "lens error, restart camera". I forced the lens shut because nothing else worked and now it works again. Thank god I don't have to buy a new camera!

I had the same problem and fortunately for me it was simple to fix. I gave it a little push & twist on the lens and to my surprise the lens retracted and now the camera works fine. Good Luck!

My lens wont fully extend

Alright, so when I turn on the camera to do business. The lens pops in and out as it should, but then my camera beeps a few times and says "lens error, restart camera" Now I restarted the camera 7 or 8 times and I keep getting the error. I have a feeling its the camera's lens track not allowing the lens to fully extend during the operations check. Any input?

My sister's camera was having the same trouble and after trying a few different things, i came across a solution that fixed her camera. Her error said "lense error, restart camera."

I held down the shutter button for a few seconds, then i held down the power button as well. I tried it once or twice and then it worked. I hope this helps!

Lens error

I keep this Elph in a tiny, padded Halliburton case because the last TWO I bought ended up with broken screens. I never had a problem, though lightly used. Last night I recharged the battery and inserted it. Immediately upon power-up, the lens went out and I got a "Lens error, restart camera" error. I turned it on and off about twenty times, left the battery out overnight: same thing. I jiggled the lens with the same result. Canon tech support told me to take the battery out and toggle the power switch seven times. Same deal. So they said to send it in. But I have no idea where my POP is and it may be over a year old. Any ideas? Thanks, Rick

What version of Windows are you installing this on, or is it on a Mac?

Regardless, you can download an updated version of the software here:

http://tinyurl.com/22fgku

It's possible you have an outdated version that won't work with your OS, that's especially likely if you're running Vista. Or you could just have a corrupt version. Either way, the first thing to try is downloading the newest version for your OS and installing that. Let me know if you still get an error message when trying this (and what that error message is).

Color Accent and Color Swap

I cannot figure out how to use these features. Can someone help me figure this out?

Color Accent:

  • enter this mode
  • point to a color you'd like to highlight
  • press Menu
  • shoot
This will be the only color, all other colors will now be shades of gray.

Color Swap:
  • enter this mode;
  • camera will ask you to input Original and New colors;
  • use Up and Down to select how loose/precise color selection needs to be;
  • point camera to something with Original color and press Left
  • point camera to something with New color and press Right
  • shoot
Everything with the Original color will be shown with the New color.

Both of these procedures are described in the Advanced User Guide, pages 59-63 ( http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0900001430/PSSD600IXUS60CUGad-EN.pdf )
