Black screen

Bios battery is probably bad, loose, or discharged.F10 to setup, set your date and time, then exit saving changes, on reboot it should have the date and time without the error. The next time you power the PC off and back on again, if you face the same message, then the battery is not charging or holding the charge and needs to be replaced.Open the case, look for a "watch battery" silver, round, between the size of a Nickel and Quarter, about as thick too.. there is usually a latch at one edge that you can push on using a flat screw driver or use needle nosed pliers to squeeze at the edge.. Once you have the battery out, you can go buy a replacement using the numbers on the battery.

Cannot boot or switch on

The power supply is faulty and needs to be replaced, undo the screws holding the top cover on, pull the cover up and away from the from the front, the power supply will be at the back on the right, there are four screws holding the power supply in place, they are at the back of the computer case, undo these and the power supply should come out, make a note of where the power connectors go before removing, take the power supply to your local pc store, as most power supplies are standered the compaq power supplies maybe slightly smaller in size, so your local store may have a replacement or you may have to order one straight from compaq. hope this helps. cheers.

Compaq Deskpro EN 1GHz. power supply is ok. But

Unplug it from the wall. Remove the side panel. Look for a small circular battery (similar to watch battery). Remove the battery for 30 seconds. Replace the battery, plug it back in. This should reset the bios. Green light on the board does not necessarily say good power supply as well. Very likely motherboard or power supply.

How long does the Intel i7-930 processor expected to last?

The best way to prolong life of a computer is to blow out dust from the case and cooling fins and power supply regularly, at least every year. That prevents overheating - a primary cause of component failure. Do not overclock. Do periodic full disk backups and intermediate new file ones. Leapfrog between two external disks. They are cheap. Protect them from fire. Laptops - same story,, do not block cooling holes by putting on a blanket while lounging. And turn off machine before blowing out dust. Do not use full PSI compressor air! maybe 20 PSI...
