Win 7 Ultimate will not

Plug your usb drive into your computer. Then right click on my computer and select manage. Select disk management in the left pane. scroll down to look for your external drive in the bottom pane. You might need to initialize the disk by right clicking the gray area to the left of your disk on the bottom pane. If its already initialized you should be able to right click the disk just to the right of where you just clicked and select format, making sure to assign a drive letter and do a quick format of ntfs through the wizard that pops up. If the drive is labeled GPT protected you'll have to convert the disk to MBR by using the diskpart command. Go to start then run and type cmd and hit enter to bring up the command prompt.
  1. Type diskpart and hit enter
  2. Type list disk and hit enter and find your disk in the output
  3. Type select followed by your disk's number, for example "select disk 1"
  4. Type clean and hit enter
  5. Close the command prompt and now you should be able to initialize and format your disk.

Lacie Big Disk Extreme stopped working after

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files.
For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge guarantee".

LaCie 1TB extreme do not start and make strange noise

This is an issue I have seen on more than one occasion. I have two of the BD extreme's and I have found that replacing the power supply seems to have been the issue. I have spoken to Lacie about this but they have not admitted having any issue with the external power supply.

I have a 1tb Lacie

you could have two resons for the issue.

1. you disk itself is having a issue
2. the enclosure adaptor ( not the power ) could have a issue.

I have lost the external power supply for my 1TB

The voltages are right because hard drives use 12volts for the motor drive and 5volts for the digital logic circuits.
The only thing I don't know is the correct voltages for the various pins, there is a possibility it may not suit the LaCie.
This maybe a standard configuration for external USB hard drives, you need to check with LaCie.

Hard drive not booting

Test the power supply with a volt meter. You should be able to hear the hard drive spin just by putting it up to your ear.

Cannot detect

Hi there!
Same issue here
Running win XP on my laptop and I have my LaCie NAS on my network and was working fine 'til today.
Issue: unable to access my LaCie NAS
troubleshooting done:1- rebooting NAS 2-power cycling the whole network 3- also tried accessing NAS from a Mac Book (used to be able) 4- nable to ping it by name or by IP
I had one my NAS's shares mapped to Y:, Now I can see the share from my network places but when I go to map network drive the Y: is no more assigned to that share.
My next move would be to re-install the NAS but I want to know and make sure that this will not delete what I have on that NAS.
Thanks to anyone that would jump in and give a hand to a desperate novice in Networking

Big Disk disapeared

before anyone can help you with this they would need to know the operating system you using and possibly the hardware your using, and anything that may have changed, moving equipment changing anything power outages unplugging anything, anything that happened before the problem occured, also does the disk make any new noises or is it not spinning, put your hand on the case while its off and turn it on you should notice a slight vibration start this means its at least spinning, also are the led's(lights) illuminating as they did before or are they flashing or an odd color, also how are you trying to access the drive, from a file manager(finder/explorer/etc.) or an application(imovie/windows movie maker/etc.) and where was the icon normally, if using a mac it should normally mount directly to the desktop by itself, in windows it will appear in my computer after it has mounted, open the device manager and check to see if windows can see it at all....right click on [my computer] and select [properties] then click on the [hardware] tab then click the [device manager] button, expand the usb list or whatever type of connection is used for the disk, and see if it shows up also check in the removable storage areas and the hard drive list.

My LaCie big disk extreme+

Hope this helps??!!
Posted Oct 13, 2006 - It's not the drives that fail, it's the power supplies... They fry after about 3 months-1.5 years. LaCie sells replacements for about $16-$20, dpeneding on the model. We have over 20 of these drives, and here's how you know: the drive spins up, then down - it tries to mount, data transfer will freeze, etc. Just put another power supply on it, and 9 times out of 10, it's fine. Of course, any drive can fry on you, but these have proven to be extremely reliable under some of the hardest use imaginable.

Will reinstalling Netowrk Drive (E.B.Disk) delete everything on

Wait.. If you have this hard drive it should be connected using network adapter right? you make it sound like it is connected through USB. Reinstalling the driver on your pc is not a bad idea and it will remove the hard drive files. I suggest go to another pc and search from there. Also, find out the network ip address of that hard drive. If it is plugged in to the network switch then it would be easy for you to access the files even without installing the drivers.
accessing the drives and shared folder:
start-> run and type in \\harddriveIP\sharedfolder

if you don't know the ip use the software lookatlan to search for it.

I need to know how to do a factory reset on a lacie 4Big Quadra enterprise.

  1. Disconnect all cables from the device.
  2. Press and hold the "reset" button (located on the rear panel) for about 10 seconds.
  3. Wait for the device to restart and initialize. This may take several minutes.
  4. Reconnect the cables to the device and try accessing it again.
Note: It's recommended to backup all data stored on the device before performing a factory reset, as all data will be lost during the reset process.

Depending on your OS, use your disc utility and see if it has been initialised or not. If not initialise it and then you can format and use it as normal.

My LaCie external drive isn't getting power

U should test for power at the connector that goes into the lacie with a voltmeter to make sure power supply and its wire are OK. If no voltmeter then use a automobile brake or turn signal bulb to see if it has power.
