Hi I have a Linksys Camera

Once you have properly install the software drivers for
camera, DO NOT UNPLUG it from the USB port unless
you have powered down your laptop computer or
Desktop Computer as it will cause the Camera drivers
to become corrupt.
Like wise plug the camera into the
USB port before powering up your laptop or the
desktop computer so it will recognize the camera and
drivers that are installed.

Do this to get the camera working again.
Follow the instructions below and it will work.

Disconnect the Camera from the USB port and reinstall the CD or
Downloaded software program.

When the program asks you to connect the camera to the USB port,
do so and it should work.

Then to use it on the Web, do this.
Web Camera's have to be setup on the program they are to be used
with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up
to broadcast on
messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio
and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
Then click on the Video Settings.
The camera, if Installed Properly, it will come up and show a video
picture.
Then, on the bottom of the page click save.
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and
Family will now be able to see and hear you.

We all have this problem with this camera

do a site survey for your setup to see which channel is best for your location. Keeping in mind that wireless networks become more popular, the channel that was best then may not be best now. so you may want to do site survey and channel selection when you have problem communicating between devices.
alway upgrade your cordless phone to dec 6.0 type.

Doesnt work wirelessly...

see my other posts on this.
1) remove security such as WEP/WPA and see if that fixs it.
2) ping the device to verify you are talking to it wirelessly. Linksys setup software has major bugs
3) move camera super close to wireless AP as setup software uses different wireless protocol than video record software does. After it is setup you can move camera further away.

However, it won't keep connection for more than 24 hours.

Lost connection

There is no solution to this. It is a problem inside Linksys wireless cameras. The video transfer is one program and the I am alive and configuration part is another program. Both using two different wireless protocols.

So the SETUP function requires it be very close...under a few feet away from wireless access point to get it connected. Once connected you can move the camera to other locations.

However, this will only last for about 12 hours, 26 is the most I ever got.
And then you are done.

It is so brittle that after days of playing with it, I set it up and had it working at 11:00pm ,and go to bed at 11:15. At 11:22 it breaks.

Essentially too brittle of software to make it work in professional setting and requires lots of maintenance.

Cameras work pretty well when software keeps them connected.

Setup software is very amateurish and bugs galore! Take a quick 5 minute look and you will see what I mean

Wireless not working

remove wireless security as Linksys won't accept certain WEP keys

ping the device to determine that it is there. This often works and shows it is a Linksys setup problem. If can't even ping the device then you have another bigger problem.

Finally, move the camera to under 5 feet of the wireless access point and then Setup will work. After setup then you can move camera out further.

Losing wireless Connection

No solution known to fix this. Internal the software tries to refind itself.

In Linksys software there are two separate programs running. The video is sent to the wireless router and recorded on your computer. Whether it is alive or not and can be configured is a different program. That program requires the wireless camera be literally just a few feet from the wireless router. Say 5 feet or less. One configured you can move the camera to well over 100 feet from router fine.

But eventually it will lose connection and you have physically move camera back.

This is a major flaw of this system and why it won't work for a real application

Unable to start LINKSYS WVC54GC

If the power light is not on, it could only mean 3 things, power adapter, power outlet and the camera itself. First, try to connect it to a different power outlet, see if power light will come on, if not use a different power adapter with the same power specs, if still power light is not on, then it has camera could be bad. Call linksys support line and have it replace
