My left speaker (the one without volume) is also much softer. I think it's because each speaker is actually made of a 2" bass speaker for the low frequencies, plus a tiny tweeter speaker for the high frequencies. When the bass speaker isn't working, you only get the treble in one speaker. This speaker works using "pressure drivers" and I am trying to figure out and fix mine now. I will let you know if it works.

This article contains tips for resolving sound related issues in Windows XP.
No Sound From all speakers
-
Check that the speakers are powered on.
-
Check that the speakers are connected to the correct ports on the PC. This is particularly important If the customer has both integrated sound and a sound card.
-
If the speakers have a volume control button - ensure that this is turned up.
-
Check that the Windows Audio service is running. If this is not running then many of the subsequent troubleshooting steps will not work. Go to Start->Run and type services.msc. Double cliick on Windows Audio. Select Start if possible and check that the Startup Type is Automatic. Click OK.
-
If the speakers are digital speakers then try forcing the sound card to use digital. Go to Start->Control Panel->Sound and Audio Devices.. On the Volume tab, click the Advanced button in the Device Volume section. In the Volume Control window, below the Play Control Volume slider, click Advanced. If this does not show select Advanced Controls from the Options menu. Select Digital Output Only
-
If possible try an external audio source like a Walkman, CD, or MP3 player (connect the speakers to the headphone jack)
-
Check that the volume control in Windows isn't muted or turned too low. See the screen shots below. Go to Start->Control Panel and double click on Sounds and Audio Devices.
When I plug the speakers in, No sound comes out of them.
Hi, have you tried any speakers on your computer before if yes and these speakers you bought are not working even you turned the volume up they may be faulty, else it may be a cable problem, jack has not been connected at the right place or the sound driver is not installed on your computer. try to check if all is OK or even check the speaker by connecting it to an mp3 or any device using this type of jack if it is playing the problem may be on your computer.
hope that this will help and don't hesitate to contact me and don't forget to rate.

defective speaker amp or computer sound card, i would suspect the speakers 1st.
Speakers used to work fine and now don't.
This looks like a loose contact, probably in the speakers connector. Try gently wiggling the wire as if to "push" it into the connector. If this restores the sound, temporarily of course, you'll need to purchase a similar audio jack, cut off the old one, strip its wires and solder them into the new jack - three minutes' work if you're familiar with a hobbyist soldering iron.
Speakers play all sound except that from Internet Explorer
sounds like you may have driver conflict with another device. try downloading another ie or try uninstalling the sound card and rebooting the pc. make sure there are no other device for audio attached or recording programs running in the background.

FOR MACS... Last February(08) I bought the V20 Logitech speakers for my Apple iBook laptop. I got them to work. Hadn't used them for about a year and had forgotten how to get the sound to emerge. I went to System Preferences. Clicked on Sound. I had plugged in the USB. Didn't show up. Unplugged it and plugged in again and there it was! I clicked on it and the sound came through immediately. So wait to plug in the speakers until you have opened Sound. (And Pandora (superb Internet radio station) is playing flawlessly.) I am not familiar with PCs. Sorry.
