You have a heat problem caused by dust blocking the vent and fan or your fan is faulty and not spinning freely.
Remove the dust from the fan and heatsink, check to see if the fan spins freely. If the fans is faulty, replace the fan.

You may need to take the hard drive out and find a portable USB hard drive case to put it in ...if it is 3 years old it is probably an IDE drive ...newer ones are SATA drives....then hook it to another computer and and check it ...you can also reformat it in the portable case on another computer then put it back in the laptop and then reinstall windows......if it isn't recognized by the other computer then it probly wrecked the hard drive somehow..
Hope this helps

This sounds like the LCD inverter it could be getting ready to go, usually you will start seeing flickers as well, it may just be a faulty connection in the LCD either way, it's best to have someone look at it before the display goes all together.

Hope this helps

If it is always there, then you are going to need a new monitor. If it comes and goes then it could be drivers or hardware.

That is a problem when the hard drive fails or the operating system is not installed. Has this computer ever worked that you know of? Is the hard drive installed?
I can't fix this for you, but if I helped you get it fixed, please rate it as a fixya not a helpful rating. These ratings let me be allowed to help you and others in the future.

What make of hard drive is in it?
Figure out what brand hard drive it is first. Then go to the website of the manufacturer.
While you are on the site look for software for hard drive repair. It could be listed in many ways. Download the windows version if you have another computer to test this in. If you do not have another computer to test this in you will have to use the Dos version. The instructions will come with the siftware.
Then you will go through these steps.
Do you have another computer that you can use to check the hard drive? If you have another computer or access to another computer you can download a hard drive utility that can diagnose and possible repair the hard drive. Is it a SATA hard drive? If it is a SATA hard drive you can plug it directly into another computer that has a SATA cable. If it is not SATA you will need to buy a converter so that you can hook it up to the other computer. This will be an external slim hard drive enclosure. A desktop hard drive can be put in another desktop and used as a slave drive. Just make sure that you look at the back of the Hard Drive and make put the jumper on the slave pins. Then you can run the test through the other computer to test the Hard Drive. The test will let you know if the Hard Drive is bad or not. If you can see your files on the drive you might want to back them up before you start the test. If it comes back as good go to the next step.

FIX BOOT
You can boot it up with the recovery CD and run through it as if you were doing a setup and then when the second repaircomes up..... hit repair. This should repair any problem with the operating system. If you want to try the simple way... use the first repair that comes up. When the screen comes up with a blinking curser hit the number 1 then Enter........ When it ask you for a password hit enter. There should not be a password unless someone has put one in it. If there is a password it should be your master password.
Then type fixmbr and hit enter. This will fix your master boot record. If that does not work use the second repair. Sounds complicated but it is not.

Maintain adequate ventilation. If your PC is crowded between your desk and the wall, there?s no room for proper air circulation. Use compressed air to remove dust and debris around the fan and laptop openings. It could also be the CPU fan has gone out and is not spinning properly if at all. Try the air first. If it still overheats, take it to a certified tech and have him look at it. Don't continue to use the laptop for extended periods until you fix this problem. Heat can cause serious damage to your laptop. Then your talking big money.

Is this laptop brand new? Because normally, when you plug in the power adapter, the battery charges up to 100% and stays there UNTIL the power adapter is unplugged. Then it will start to run down its power. It's not supposed to run down with the power adapter plugged in. Also, if you take out the battery and only plug in the power adapter, it should work fine. If it doesn't, then there's a problem with the adapter.
