Toshiba Satellite M45-S169 Notebook Questions & Answers
Hi,
I re-installed the hard drive
If drive not spinning, definitely dead. If spins and not recognized by laptop cmos, the logic board on drive is toast.
Afraid that you have a nice cute paperweight.

Toshiba satellite m45-s169 will not boot windows
Windows is corrupted or the hard drive has issues, if you have a cd installation disc try a fresh install, if no change! the hardware needs to be checked for possible replacement.

Cd rom does not work.
Check the driver in device manager. You would be looking for any icons with an X or a ? next to them. The driver probably isn't the issue, so I would search for the model number of your laptop plus "cd drive" on ebay. These are pretty cheap and are easily replaced. If that doesn't fixya, then there's possibly something wrong with the motherboard.

Unable to e-mail pictures. does not recognize
If it doesn't recognize the server it isn't a problem with the computer, its most likely the program you use to send and receive e-mails (errors like these are commonly found in Outlook and Outlook Express).
Thunderbird is a very good software to use for e-mailing, it has import tools to help you bring your emails, address books, and settings from your older email program to Thunderbird.

I need a password for
If it is a bad virus that won't let you do anything on the computer, follow the instructions on this
link. If you can install programs on your computer, follow only steps 7 and 8 from the above link.
To reset the BIOS read the information from this
link.
In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

SCREEN IS JUST BLUE, STAR BOOTING BUT ENDING BLUE
Hi there,
Usually this is the dead sure sign your hard drive has some serious problems. This does not mean all you data is lost, or that it's the end of the world. It does mean that you need a "cagey" (that means a real expert on overcoming blue screen problems) dude/babe in your camp or crew, or it means you need to, just for now, get a new hard drive and get your operating system reinstalled and get your work or art done on that new drive.
It means you need patience to find a good soul to put your old drive in an "enclosure" with hardware plugs and wires to match, and get your data off.
It means you need to stop trying to get to your hard drive now, step back, and get these other things done so that you don't damage it any more so you can get the most of your data off.
It means that life is both short and long, and that you get to learn to be "cool" about puter problems, and make great choices that eventually pay off.
Kind regards
selk

Hard drive crashed need replacement
Actually you can put just about any size in there. The only thing you need to do is match the connector style. (that takes care of anything else) There are two type SATA and EIDE SATA is the new style and you can get a 500gb drive (and bigger ) EIDE is the older style and has a block looking socket. SATA looks like a tab. On the label on your dead drive you should see a diagram and it should say sata or eide.
Now as long as you get the same connector as your old drive you can get what ever size of drive they have. So this is a good time to spend $10 more and get a 160 or a 320 instead of the 80. The brand does not matter as long as the conenctor and type are correct. I put a 160 in a old A70 I had as there was only a few dollars difference in the prices.
