Hitachi CP-S240 Multimedia Projector Questions & Answers
Locate filter
The air filter for the Hitachi CP-S240 is located below the lens if the projector is sitting flat on a surface.
There will be a plastic cover that slides off by pulling it towards the front of the machine. Inside this cover you'll find the filter.
To clean it, simply pull the filter out of the cover or housing and blow the dust out of it. Replace the filter and the cover, and then make sure to go into your menu and reset the filter timer.
Projector is saying to check the airflow? What
This means you may have an obstruction preventing airflow from circulating properly. If this is the case, it can lead to overheating of the projector, which could result in very expensive repairs.
You need to regularly clean the air filter and rest the filter timer to ensure that your projector can cool itself properly. I recommend doing this every 100 hours of use. In fact, Hitachi projectors can be set to warn you when a certain amount of time has elapsed. I believe 100 hours is the default.
If cleaning the air filter and resetting the filter timer does not remedy this, you can use canned air to blow out the inside of the projector and try to clear the obstruction.
You also want to make sure all fans on your projector are working. If not, stop using the projector and replace those as soon as possible.
Overheating is the leading cause of projector malfunction, and basic routine maintenace can increase the life of your projector and the lamp by a great deal. For example, the lamps for that machine are typically estimated to have a life of no greater than 2000 hours, and typically you'll see them go out anywhere from 1300 hours to 1600 hours. Because I regularly check my machines, the ones that are not used intensively for hours on end every day will often have a lamp life of over 2000 hours, and I found one recently that made it to 3100 hours.
My Hitachi LCD CP-S240 projector turns off EVERY
Generally this is what happens when the lamp is on it's last leg or the projector itself is overheating. Being that you said you work in education, my solution for you will be slightly different than I might otherwise offer.
Your institution will have a department who's job it is to maintain this equipment. I know this because that's what I do. You need to put in a work order with the Information Technology department, or Educational Technology department, or Instructional Technology department, or whatever your support department is called. Every educational institution has something like this.
Explain the problem to them with as much detail as you can, and I am sure they will be able to resolve your problem.
Most likely, a simple lamp replacement and timer reset will fix this, but occasionally a fan will have to be replaced. Other times, this is indicative of something that will require a trained technician to repair.
Assuming you have a support area that handles this for your institution, please do not try to fix this yourself. As good as your intentions might be, the tech people at your workplace are the ones who need to handle this and often have to keep records regarding maintenance.
What size are the mounting screws?
The brass mounting holes on the bottom of Hitachi data projectors require a 4mm bolt.
Typicall 4mm x 10 is the shortest bolt I will use if when installing a projector on a ceiling mount, and 4mm x 20 will be the longest. I also recommend picking up 3 washers and spacers of varying sizes if you want to insure the projector is mounted level without warping whatever it is you are attaching it to.
BMS makes great locking mounts that come with all the mounting hardware you'd need to attach a projector to it.
Hitachi cp-s240 remote question
Hitachi data projectors are able to function as a mouse using either the USB port or the control port located on the back of the projector.
However, they are not intended to be used as a remote presenter. This means that although you can use the remote as a mouse, you will not be able to change slides in a full screen slide show using powerpoint.
I recommend the
Targus remote presenter for this purpose. This device will function as a mouse, pointing device, and will allow you to change slides in powerpoint. In addition, it's inexpensive, wireless, and small enough to easily fit in your pocket.
The color on our cp-s240
Often you will see that you have lots of options in your menu that appear grayed out. This occurs when you do not have an input device connected to your projector.
In order to have access to all the menu options, simply connect an input device (TV,DVD player, computer, etc) to your data projector and start the projector.
Assuming everything works properly, if the projector starts receiving a signal, you will have all your menu options available.
I'd also note that image discoloration can also be caused from defective/damaged cabling, cables not being connected fully, bent pins depending on the type of cables you are using, and also for internal problems. If you can not adjust your settings to achieve satisfactory color, check your cables for damage and make sure they are all connected properly.
When does the lamp kick in right when it start or
This varies by manufacturer and projector model. Without knowing the make and model of your projector it's hard to give you an accurate answer.
Lamps in Hitachi data projectors tend to come on almost immediately after starting the machine. Lamps on the older InFocus projectors took a bit longer before you'd see light coming through the lens.
If there is a short delay between the time you start your projector and when you first see light, I would not be concerned. Data projectors have to cycle on the same way they cycle off, meaning it's a process and sometimes seems like it is running slowly.

The setting you are looking for is called mirror. If you go into your menu, you should be able to find it. I'm not fmailiar with that exact model, but Hitachi is very good about keeping their projectors consistent where the menu/options are concerned. Once you find the mirror section, cycle through the options (there will be 3 or 4) until you find the one you need. If your projector is hanging upside down from the ceiling, select the ceiling option.
Hitachi CPS-220 is saying 'RGB
This would indicate that the display settings on the PC are outwith the acceptable range of the projector.
To solve this, right-click on a clear part of your PC desktop and select "Graphics Properties" (in Vista). You then need to adjust the display settings. That is a very old projector which will accept a maximum screen resolution of 1024 x768 pixels. Try changing that 1st. If it doesn't work, keep that screen resolution and also adjust the refresh rate in Hz until you get an image.
The native resolution of that projector is SVGA (800 x 600 pixels).
Whats it mean when the projector says to check the
one or more of the fans may not be working properly and the heat is triggering the temperature sensor. if the projector is too dusty, the heat stays in and may ruin components. if there are filters, clean them first.
Multi Media Projector Problem
Open power point first, open full screen and proceed. Do not double click on the file.
In the explorer window, you can change the .ppt association away from the easy worship tool and restor it to power point. This will open .ppt files with power point.
Good luck
Hitachi cp-s240 blue tint cloud problem
This might sound like a worn spot in the (blue) lens from heat, or a bad color driver on the mother board. It could possibly be dirt or condensation behine the lens(s)
Using the computer monitor and the projector at the same time?
I kind of have a solution for you. I know you need a splitter cable. You might want to go to Radio Shack or your local geek store or the manufacturer of the desktop and see what they have as far as accessories.
Or
Get yourself a laptop and run the projector from that, All you have to do then is hold down the FN key while pressing (depending on the make and model) F3 or F7. I use two differant laptops and those are the keys I use. I hope that I helped.
Displayed massege to check air flow
With most projectors there is a foam air filter behind a grill that is the opening to the cooling channels. A fan ensures air flow to cool the lamp, etc. This filter prevents dust from gumming up the works (and depending on design) may prevent dust getting into the optics. As the filter gets dirty it gradually cuts off the air and at some point a protective circuit kicks in and turns off the lamp.
If the projector is on you will feel a stream of hot air coming out of the exit vent. Projectors vary in terms of amount of air flow, so its difficult to define what is normal for a specific model. However, you can simply hold a hand in front of the vent and see if there is air flow (It will be hot air so, careful). If there is a "good" stream of air things are fine, but if only a very light flow is felt the filter may be dirty.
If the filter has not been cleaned or replaced recently make sure the projector is turned off and cooled down then take off the inlet cover and remove the filter. Clean or replace per the instructions for the projector (and periodically as defined .. but taking into account the operating conditions). Once cleaned turn on the projector and feel the "normal" air current for future reference.
Heat is one of the major causes of projector failure, so make sure cooling vents (inlet and outlet) are not obstructed and filters are kept clean
