I am definitely not an expert but even I know no one likes Vista and these days it is frowned on even more as the support for it has been withdrawn. Windows 2000 is now too old to be of any practical use online. XP is old and limited but is still very popular because it is quite good and it suits most of the people most of the time. I use it myself. I am using it now. In some ways it is superior to Windows 7 that is on my downstairs computer. I have a friend who is a real computer boffin and he has completely finished with Windows and now uses Linux. He says it is superior in almost every way... If your graphics was ok before you began your exercise you should not need to buy another. I have just had the same trouble. After loading XP on my work computer I had only 13 colours and most of the device manager was inoperative, effectively preventing me doing anything about it. In this case I believe there was a fault somewhere on the motherboard because not wanting to fiddle around with it I swapped the hard drive into another computer and reloaded XP with no trouble. I have had trouble in the past. I don't know definitely what was wrong all of the time but a couple of times the systems disc was defective and other times I believe the dvdr wasn't reading the disc very well and once the hard drive was bad. Other times computers haven't worked as expected simply because the bios battery was discharged. I know my limitations and I am fairly confident if the motherboard and power supply are good, then by fiddling around with the dvdr or changing it for one of the many others I have accumulated, by fiddling around with the systems discs and so forth, they usually eventually work as intended and if they don't it is because there is a motherboard fault I know nothing about and I junk it and move onto the next. The stuff I am working with is around 15 years old and most electronic gear is expected to become tired and develop faults after that time. We wouldn't blame a tv, hi-fi or something for failing after even 10 years so why do we think computers are any different...

i think its not the Drive problem, but lead to monitor or graphic issue..

Change DVD Drive

Try installing in compatibility mode, right click on exe

1.control panel->system->hardware->DEVICE MANAGER 2.uninstall your driver 3.restart you computer 4.on tray icon a balloon come with a MSG of 'found new hardware' 5.click on it 6.select your driver from it .then select suitable option
if you still have problem buy a you op(win xp,vista,7..).using that disk repair you computer.

Spend $40 to buy a new CD/DVD reader/writer drive,
and install it to replace your "dead" optical device.

This is less expensive than paying a technician to "trouble-shoot".

U have to replace a new LG DVD RAM the lence inside the LG DVD RAM got spoilt or

how much is the lifetime?maybe the lens need to cleaning.try another CD/DVDs .

You DO NOT require a driver as such for any CD DVD.

As stated in this video, it is more likely with the age of the Drive
that it is not cost effective to repair it.

of corse, it can burn any thing

did u try to use any other CD on ur computer.. there may be a possibility if the CD ur trying to use is not compatible with ur computer.. check this first.. and let me know if problem persists.. regards, guru

I have run into this a few times and there is something you can try. Make sure you are connected to the internet, go to control panel and then to device manager. Scroll down to the cd/dvd device, select the installed drive and right click, then uninstall the device, hit ok and reboot. When windows reboots, it will recognize the device and install it, it may ask to search windows update for an updated driver, allow it to.

Make sure if you are booting to win7 your bios is set to boot to your dvd drive

1st i gotta know: is ur drive pata/sata and the device make n model..
assuming that ur drive is pata, n u r a professional n aware of bios/cmos setup utility handling..!!
open up ur system cabinet and see if all the data cables n jumper settings at the back of the drives (master/slave selection)..itz most important..!!
however, at the bootup (0.29sec) start pressing briskly the key to enter cmos utility or bios setup (eg. F1/F2/F10/Del as applicable)..glance in the standard settings if r detected individually..change the 'Mode' if m/b is hybrid type(both SATA+PATA) : Native/Compatible/Enhanced (as applicable)..
see if ur device needs any additional driver or not, if so try downloading..
look if ur device itself is faulty by replacing with a standby..
also try checking itz data cable for loose or faulty..
above all explanation is applicable only if itz not being detected by the m/b or system..not for reading or writing problem....
contact ur system admin/vendor....
