I NEED THE DRIVER FOR MY CAMERA PLEASE

Vivitar Vivicam 5100 USB Mass Storage Device Driver Windows 98.
Note: Windows Me/2000/XP, Mac OS X, and Desktop LX users do not require any driver software for this camera."

This lets Windows98 get at the pictures stored on the camera, but doesn't let the Vivicam 5100 work as a webcam, even in windows 98.

My guess is that the driver is hard to find because it doesn't exist. :-(

While I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news,
We could always use the help. ;-)

Good luck,

No power

Here is possible fix.
Understand and be warned that doing the following may damage the camera even more, but if it does not work, then it may be worth the try.

Get a towel, fold it and lay it on a table. With the camera turned off and at an angle so that it will hit on one corner, hit the camera on it's edge on the towel. Not too hard, but do it with enough pressure so that the camera may come back by shaking up the internal connections.
Try to turn it on again, try a couple more times if the first is not successful.
What this does is to cause the internal connections and parts be shaken to such a degree as to make possible connections work again.
You have (in my experiments) about a 30 percent chance that this will work and cause the camera to come back as it did before.

If this does not work, the camera is only good for parts or repair.
Possibly to be sold on a site such as Ebay as is or for parts or repair.

HOW TO GET MY PICTURES FROM THE CAMERA TO THE COMPUTER

when i take photos off the camera i always plug the camera in, switch it on. after the pc has picked your camera up and installed the driver go to my computer and go to the removable drive create, there will be a folder in there, your pictures will be in that folder. just copy paste to a new folder on your desktop and you have them off your camera. if your going to be editing then youll need another program. i dont use the software provided because i never edit my photos so i find it easier this way.

Camera

Try to get any menus with out the camera plugged into the PC or any card inserted.
Will it get a menu?
If you still have NO MENU and Nothing on the screen, the problems deepen.
Possibly a defective or broken LCD.
If any of the lites turn on when you turn on the camera and no LCD shows, you may have a bad LCD.

Appears to need some kind of repair.

Bright pictures

If this is in the normal modes, try the following.

Go to the set up or menu and reset all.. what you are doing is resetting all settings back to default or factory settings.
If the problem does not show at all in any of the menus or playback from a card, then the problem is more than likely a ccd problem of some kind. This problem may be fixed for free, not sure if Vivitar will fix, but worth a try to email or call them at:

Camera will not turn off

Try to make the camera to work with no card, no cable connected.
If it does the same, the camera needs repair or can be sold for parts.

You can try to reset all in the menu or set up.

Shutter

Hi:
Try this:
Go to the menu and or setup menu. RESET ALL.
See if the camera works right,
If not, set the menu like you may choose, then test.

If all fails, then there may be a problem with the ccd or sensor.

Missing Pictures

Hi danievo:
First, make sure that you never insert another card formatted in another camera to one which is different, even same brands may be different. Doing this can corrupt all the pictures on the card. Just inserting the card in the camera to read it can cause the camera to make folders or files for it's type.

Here is the safest thing to do, and I have gotten back pics I could not see on the camera.

Buy or get a card reader. Install the card reader...usually if it is a usb, simply plug it into a usb port, and it should be detected by the computer system. If it is not, then restart the system with the card reader plugged in.
The card should be able to be read if the files are still there.
If you had pictures which are valuable, then there are programs which will bring back any deleted pictures which have not been over written by other files.
This is why it is best to copy all files as soon as you remove the card from a camera.
Also a note here.. never delete or add files to the card which you value from the pc. Not a good idea, because of the danger of corruption which can occur from that.
Best practice: When you put a new or used card into any camera, first make sure there are no pictures or files of any kind you want to save, then format the card in the camera you intend to use it in. This sets up the card to be used to the best advantage of the camera's system.
Many times users wonder why their camera saves the pictures so slow. One reason can be that the card was not formatted to be used in that camera.
For instance if the card was formatted in a Nikon, and then you put it into a Canon, the canon will make canon folders and files and may corrupt the remaining files.
