"No Signal" when DVD player is hooked up via component video

"no signal" is read while using component video cables to hook up two different dvd/surround sound devices. what really doesn't make any sense to me is that maybe 25% of the time the tv will display the video. if i hook up the cable box with the same component video cables, it works perfectly. Unfortunately, I have to use the component video to hook up my dvd since it does not have HDMI.

If you are using the same cables, same input and the cable box works ok. I would look into the settings of the DVD player. Such as is it a progressive playback and is progressive turned on. It is not turned on by default because not all TV's could handle progressive in.

Picture black- sound ok

My Zenith is a little over one year old. It is attached to a state of the art surge protector and there have not been any power failures, etc over the last several weeks. Recently, the TV powers up and the green light comes on, however there is no picture. Even when you are adjusting the volume or the Menu commands directly on the unit, no picture comes up. Please advise. Thank you

If you have audio but no on screen display, then the problem is likely in the Video Drive Board.

Z50PX2D 50" - I heard a loud pop and now only a washed out black and white picture

I've had this TV for 18 months with no extended warranty.  The last TV I bought lasted 18 years so I didn't think it made any sense to buy a 2 or 3 year extended warranty.  Now I read all over the Internet that this is a common problem with the Z50PX2D and that Zenith won't acknowledge this as a problem.  Sounds like a class action suite is in order.  Anybody up for that?

it is wonderful that lg is replacing the boards, but unfortunately, I don't think that they will provide this service forever. So if anyone reads this after being denied by LG, visit tristatemodule.com and you will be able to purchase any of the circuits in the set for cheaper than you will be able to from LG. I work for Tri State Module as a technician specializing in plasmas. All circuits come with a one year warranty, and I will personally repair all boards

For those of you suffering with the loud POP and dead syndrome on this model the "guest" comments here are correct. The Y-Sustain, Z-Sustain and both the upper and lower Y-Drive boards are usually replaced at the same time to prevent any damage from taking out the Y-Sus and Z-Sus boards a second time. You might like to know that the original part numbers for both the Sustain boards have been changed since original manufacturing in an attempt to prevent this problem from happening again and these parts are NOT cheap.
Y-Sus - p/n# 6871QyH039B - $337.74
Z-Sus - p/n# 6871QzH044C - $244.68
Lower Y-Drive - p/n# 6871QdH089A - $132.48
Upper Y-Drive - p/n# 6871QdH088A - $132.48

Above prices do not include shipping or sales tax if applicable.
Unfortunately techs have little voice in trying to get the manufacturers to correct these problems before the warranty runs out - knowing that after warranty repairs are going to be met with quite some resistance when it's coming out of the consumer's pocket.
Also, for reference, I've done about half a dozen of these and all have been under some warranty or extended warranty. Labor was approximately 6.5 hours so you can plan to spend roughly $1400 - $1600 for this repair..
Thought maybe if I posted here it would help a few find the answers they were looking for..

HDMI input not working

Hello,
Just tried to connect my new XBox Elite to a new 50" Zenith Plasma using HDMI supplied cables from XBox to HDMI input on Plasma. Input source is set to "HDMI" but does not receve signal from XBox. The Component cables do work, however.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Join the crowd. My 50 inch Circuit City Zenith pooped out (no picture)

Join the crowd. My 50 inch Circuit City Zenith pooped out (no picture) after 14 months, No warranty, i saw that it was expensive to repair and I left it on the wall like a nice piece of modern art for a couple of months.
Now after seeing so many other complaints, everthing is clear, Zenith Circuit City and Best Buy deliberately sold us these defective $3,000 sets to all of us.
Time to stop whining about repairs, time to start a class action lawsuit against these crooks.

My Z50PX2D was just over 2 years old and well out of warranty when the “Pop/Blank Screen” problem struck. However, LG took great care for the situation.
I civilly called LG's customer service (very nice people… all of them). LG’s CS phone number is (877) 543-8325. After a few short phone calls (less than 5 minutes each) over 4 day period, they extended my warranty and it is currently being serviced ($0 out of my pocket).
Here are some tips on the working with LG on the “Pop” issue (this should reduce the number of phone calls needed):
- RULE #1… Be respectful to all of them, everyone I spoke to were extremely nice.
- Have the model number, serial number, date of purchase and original receipt (they will require it faxed) on hand.
- Call LG Customer Service (877) 543-8325
- They will ask how they can help: Tell them what happened to your TV and you want to see if they can extend your TV’s warranty for the “pop” problem.
- They will setup a case:
o Will ask for your information (name, address, phone, model, serial number, date of purchase)
o Will ask what the problem was (IE: watching TV, there was a loud pop from the TV and the screen went out). No need elaborate too much, they know this problem exists.
o Will ask for you to fax the receipt to their fax number (they will provide)
§ Note the case number, your name and phone number on the receipt before faxing.
- Before hanging up, ask them for the case number. This will make it easier for everyone when you call back.
- Give them about 24 hours before calling to verify they received the fax.
o If they have received the fax and applied the notes to the case, they should be able to let you know if they will extend the warranty on that call.
o If the fax was received but not yet added to the ‘Case’, give them one more day.
Hopefully you will have success in having your warranty extended.

The problem can be caused by a bad sustain board (Ysus Zsus) , the popping sound is often caused by a capacitor blowing up.
The TV must be taken apart and tested before eventually replacing sustain boards.

There's an over current fault in the power supply or the Y-sustain convergence board. The loud pop was either a capacitor or pico-fuse breaking from excessive current overload. Sounds like 2 or 3 mosfets have shorted at the gate ends. Plasma TV's always have this problem because they generate too much heat and the components cant take the load conditions. Make your next TV an LCD...

To fix this problem have your local repair shop do it for you.....

any questions please ask.....

Your PS3 is sending a 1080P signal to a TV that can only handle 720P or 1080i. Connect the PS3 using the A/V cables, fix the resolution and then go back to HDMI.

The power supply board could very well be defective. I would also check the Zsus board and the Xsus boards. If either of these boards fail it could also cause the power supply board to fail.
You can unplug the connectors to the zsus board at the power supply and try to turn the set on. If it does turn on, the power supply board is ok. If not, the power supply is bad. If the power supply board is ok, undo the plug connectors that power the Xsus board and hook up the plug connectors to the Zsus board. Turn the set an and see if it stays on or shuts down. Part numbers should be on the boards. Zenith is really LG Corp. Their customer support number is 1800-243-0000.
Hope this helps,
Steve
