Akai large screen T.V. color problems
I have a similar problem with my AKAI 42 inch plasma, now my whole tv is purple. all you can do is contact akai warranty and have a service provider come out. but let me tell you, it is not an easy process if the service provider cannot help you. after the service provider told me that my tv was a goner. it took me two months to get a box to then send the tv back to an akai service center. now i have to wait a month or so, before i get it back. i wish you good luck.

OK WHEN A BORD GETS SHORTED OUT LIKE THIS IT MOST LIKLY CAUSES PROBLEMS WITH OTHER BORD'S AND COMPONETS BECAUSE I WOULD GUESS THAT IT SENT A SERG THROUGH MOST OF THE SYSTEM I HATE TO SAY IT BUT I THINK ITS REDY FOR THE TRASH UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND THE $ ON THE PROS
Double- Vision
More than likely your akai has defective stk392-040 Convergence chips . it also may have open resistors generally 3.9 ohm flame proff. this board is attached to the top left looking from the back of the set it is screwed on by 1 screw black in the center . after installation this will probably half to be converged dinamically. which means you will half to get to the grid this is done by using the remote press mute 183 quicly to enter numbers on thew remote 2 to adjust red 4 to adjust blue horizonta 6 to adjustred vertical and 8 to adjust red vertical using center button to go up and down

Sounds like dirty lenses to me. Do some research on optics cleaning for RPTVs. AVS is a good place to start. Also try this:

Unless set has some sentimental value, junk it and get a new one. If you just want to try repairing, the boards you order may or may not have proper revisions for your model. Convergence set up can be tricky, simply not worth time or money
Convergence problems
Have you tried service convergence? If so, consider replacing the convergence board. You can get one for $75 at www.partstore.com, but if you are electrically inclined you may be able to just replace the faulty components in the board (if indeed that is the problem). You'll need a multimeter and a soldering iron and a service manual for the schematic.

Hello!
Please try to unplug the power outlet to reset the setting automatically. and change the image setting of the TV. However, if this donot work. the projection of the TV maybe cause damage. On that case the error maybe in either in the horizontal or vertical setting of the tv. In this case you need a service tech to check the circuit inside. this needs a series of testing each parts of the TV. If the TV is less than a year then you can claim a warranty howver if this more than one year, service tech im sure it level on very reasonable cost same very cheap labor cost.
may this help, melnavz

Try using different inputs besides the RF input. Connect your PS2 and DVD player using component inputs. With two component inputs, there's no reason in the world not to do this.
DONT BUY AKAI
I concur.
I find that the most durable HDTVs are made by LG or Samsung. For best image quality, Toshiba and Sony take the cake. It's always worth it to hold off and save up some extra cash - Your downtime will be much more vivid :) Good luck to you.

AKAI PT4298HD - Does not turn on
Mine had the same symptoms. It was the convergence board. I replaced it and all is fine. the part number is BP95-00142E and is available from vancebaldwin.com. It's simple to replace...
you can check this before you buy the part. take off the lower back of the tv. Convergence board is on the right in about the middle of the tv - top of the lower part of the back. comes off with one screw. you can unplug the power (mine was a red plug), then plug the TV back in and it should come on. If it does, picture will be bad, (it can't converge the tubes, obviously), but you should see the picture.
good luck
TV cant turn on
replace the convergence board. you can get it from VanceBaldwin.com. The part number is BP95-00142E. Easy install. You can test this TV before you buy the part.
If you take off the lower back of the TV, you'll see the board mounted near the middle of the TV on the right. On mine the power connector is red. Unplug that connector, replug in the TV and turn it on. It should come on, but the picture will be a mess as the tubes won't converge (obviously).
Plug in the new board, and keep right on going... $78 delivered. Took three days.

RED TIMER LIGHT BLINKS AND WILL NOT POWER UP HELP
Open back of TV, there will be two STK's (black boxes) unplug the harness connector from the power supply into the stk board and turn on. If you get some light to the screen, you know now to replace the two STK's and then replug the power supply to the convergence board. If that does not work, the power supply may also be bad.
