Fantom Titanium Hard Drive Questions & Answers
Fantom hard drive red light!
There are no drivers for this unit. It is a plug & play unit that is one of the worst Fantom has ever offered. Very unreliable and many power cord problems.
I tried for several weeks to find the drivers over the net and researched a ton before I called Fantom Tech Support. The number is posted on New Egg under the their Mfg contacts
Clicking noise, won't mount
the controller on the external drive could have gone bad. i would first try removing the hard drive from that external enclosure and use a usb or esata dock and see if itll mount.
How do i reformat my hp 520m
You have to format a hard drive with a third party disk unless its a usb data drive
Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key this will vary depending on your operating system
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS then using the arrow keys navigate to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd press escape then press f10 to save to cmos restart
or if you are using a USB
insert your usb drive
click start right click on my computer select open you should see your USB drive
right click then select format
another way is to control panel administrive tools, computer management disk management right click on your drive select format
hope this helps
Have a Fantom TFD500U16 HD.
My computer does not recognize the Fanton titanium drive. It was working properly for last 2 years and contains and all of a sudden I cannot see it's drive location once I connect it to multiple computers in my household.
I suspect that one of my teenagers "moved" a file instead of copying it and somehow corrupted the file structure. By the way, I have already tried to see if it is a problem that can be fixed by assigning a drive using Disk MGMT. It is not recognized there either.
I have an external TFD500U16
Either the hard drive inside the case is bad, or the board the controls the drive is bad. The only way you can find out if the drive is good is to open up the case and remove the hard drive, then plug it into another case you buy at your local computer supply store. However depending on the case this might break the case, it should be used as a last resort for saving your data.

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seatedif this fails to fix the problem

1. if you don't eject the eternal drive properly it could cause the controller board inside the case to fail.
.2. USB drives are to be eject by the windows feature never disconnect while drive is in the port without using the ejection feature.
3. check the drive in another port to see if it can be seen in the computer list.
if not you may a defective usb controller in the case. the drive can be remove and installed into a new case. The drive may not have been damaged.
4. A new case can be purchased at the local computer store.
When I plug it into the USB I get the following
This external unit needs more power than what an normal USB socket can deliver - either use it's separate power source or the unit is dead - there has been an short in the power board of the unit.

Is this an inbuilt drive or an external drive? If you're using USB, it needs a USB connection. It shouldn't need drivers as the computer will automatically detect a hard drive.
Have you tried connecting to a completely different computer to see if that recognised it?
Won't show up on Mac desktop or inconsistently
An external storage-device has four major components:
* the USB cable
* the power-adapter
* the disk-drive inside the enclosure
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.
One of these components has failed.
Try a different USB cable.
Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.
Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.
Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.
Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.
Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.
Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.
Windows all of a sudden
There's a possible that the harddrive is corrupted, or could be the usb cable itself, have you tried connecting a different usb cable for the harddrive? If so and still doesnt work have it covered by the manufacturer of the harddrive
My system wont recognize my fantom drive, worked a
Goto your CMOS. put your hard drive settings on Auto detect or if you know the correct cylinders etc... you can manually put it in your self. then save and reboot your computer. If your settings are correct in CMOS then try to FDISK your hard drive. Also use the Fdisk /mbr command.
Unrecognized FANTOM HDD volume
