Hoover 500M Top Load washer - Water overflow & machine wont wash

Probably very repairable but impossible to say how much without looking inside and fiddling around and checking a few things. Fault could be caused by several possible faults at widely varying cost. I suggest you call a friendly local white appliance engineer...

My washer seems to be stuck on a boil wash i turn the knob to another setting and the time light flashers but will not stay on and the washer start a boil wash

Possibly the water level sensor inside is out of order. So, the program only gives the command for filling with water and heating.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Methinks you could do with a manual- for now and later!
Now- unfortunately FixYa cannot provide manuals direct - members of the forum are just people from all over the world, probably working from home, and not representing any particular manufacturer ;-0)
Manual
You will need to type into your search engine/web browser '(make model number) washer manual' and you should be presented with a number of sources from which you can either download for free or have to pay a nominal amount.
You could also try the manufacturer's web site direct ;-0)

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

I have a Hoover Top

Hi.

If it does make noise and does not spin it is usually the drain pump clogged. Disconnect power, reach the drain pump and check for blockage in there . If that is not the problem check in order drain hose at the back, lid switch, pressure switch, and finally pump and motor from underneath the washer. The switches and motors can be tested using a multimeter.

Here a page about drain/spin problem.

If you need parts see this tip explaining how to find parts and diagrams for most appliances: Where do I find parts and diagrams for my appliance?

Regards.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Sorry, this FixYa Washer Forum does not supply service centre numbers, engineers, spares sources, software, installation instructions or prices; it is just made up of ordinary guys and gals, probably at home, from all over the world, with experience of addressing problems and giving guidance for free on the web ;-0)

You will either have to search in your local telephone directories OR stay on line and search for '(make) washer service' for instance or '(make) washer spares' and hope that you can find someone reasonably local.
Sorry again ;-0(

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

HI We have a Hoover

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You need to check your water inlet valve and make sure it is not defective. Check your water pump and make sure it is working right. The pump pumps the water into the washer.

My washing machine doesn't drain

Look under the machine to find the drain valve/pump. It might be clogged or faulty. When in the drain mode soon after the completion of the wash cycle , check for voltage to the drain valve/pump. If voltage is present and it does not work we are sure of the unit to be faulty but if there is no voltage then the program controller is faulty.
Check out the controller if faulty replace or clean the valve after removing for dirt, back flush test and refit. or if faulty coil replace.

Spin Dryer doesn't work on Hoover 500M

Most probably the solonoid (also called brake motor). This is a 5 rpm motor that activates the drum to spin. I just replaced it two days back in my machine (Model 500M0AUS - you'll have to be specific when ordering or better take the old one to the spare part shop) which had a similar problem. The new soloniod I bought had a shorter cable length so I had to improvised when fitting. If soloniod is the problem then make wure the steel brake lever tooth fits perfectly in axle groove when you finish replaceing it. Do the replacement when the machine has fully stopped after completing its wash cycle.
Repair technician quoted 250 while the solonid costed me only 86. I did not charge labour to myself:)
Hope this is helpful.

MACHINE STOPS AT THE BEGINING OF CYCLE WITH LIGHTS

I am not a repair professional. I am a 78 year old man who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. So the machine ID doesn't mean much to me. I came to fixya looking for a schematic for an really old AM/FM radio and just happened to see that more than 4,700 people were asking for help with a washer repair. I recently had a washer repair of my own and at that time I found an excellent video on youtube which showed me how to take my machine apart. This video (direct drive washer repair) made it possible for me to do my own repair. You probably don't have any idea of the wonderful help you can get from youtube videos. Your first stop should be at youtube. Just search for the help you need. You could search for "clothes dryer repair" or "clothes washer repair" or "dishwasher repair". If you are not able to view and/or download the videos, or after you've seen all you want to see, I suggest you go directly to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good step by step trouble shooting and repair information on washers, dryers. and dishwashers as well as other appliances. Another excellent site is www.acmehowto.com If you have a direct drive top load washer and need help taking it apart these youtube videos are wonderful help. I was so impressed with them that when I saw all these people needing help, I wanted to tell them about the videos. If you look at the back of your top load washer and the panel is solid (no small inspection plate to remove, which would indicate you have a v-belt drive) chances are you have a direct drive and this video (direct drive washer repair) is just what you need. After you've seen all the appropiate videos, or if you have a belt drive washer, you will probably still need help in determining what the trouble is and how to fix it. I suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good trouble shooting and repair nformation on most washers and dryers, dishwashers and many other household appliances. I think you'll find what you need there. Another excellent site for DIY help is www.acmehowto.com Don't worry about the timer on a washer, they hardly ever go bad. I realize I haven't solved your problem for you, but I hope I have sent you where you can get help to solve the problem. Good luck with it.

How can I remove the agitator on a premier 510 model

Hi,
Before removing the agitator, unplug the washer to avoid an electrical shock hazard.
The agitator is fastened to the agitator shaft and its movement is driven either by splines or a simple clutch assembly. The splines are usually plastic or rubber nubs on a cylinder that fits over the agitator shaft. If the nubs wear down, the shaft will not turn properly or it will turn weakly. If the agitator is moving in only one direction, the likely cause is the clutch assembly. The clutch has dogs that depress and pop up with each turn. If those dogs are worn, they will not engage properly and the agitator will turn only in one direction.
Various makes and models differ in how the agitator is removed. In some newer models, the agitator just lifts straight up and out. However, in most models you will have to do some combination of the following steps. First remove the fabric softener dispenser, if any. It should either lift or screw off. Next remove the cap. It may lift off, screw off or failing that, it may need to be pried off.
Beneath the cap some agitators are secured in place by a bolt. Use a socket wrench with an extension to remove that bolt. Some washers may have a screw near to the bottom of the agitator post that must be removed. Now try to lift the agitator straight up, possibly with a little back and forth rocking motion. Use caution when pulling, the agitator may come loose suddenly and hit you in the face or send you flying backward.
If the agitator is particularly stubborn, you can loop some rope under one side of the agitator at the bottom and then up over a broom handle. Now loop it again under the other side of the agitator and back up to the broom. Brace one end of the broom handle against the top of the washer and lift up on the other end. Double check that you have removed anything that may be securing the agitator in place. Do not use too much force or you may damage the washer cabinet, agitator or injure yourself.
Thank you for contacting Fixya.com

A button has gone under the agitator. will this harm the pump

Most top loader machines have some sort of fastener in the center at the top of the agitator. You should look right at it when you open the lid. Once you figure out how you remove the fastener, the agitator should pull straight up. It is usually connected by a spline. You may have to pull pretty hard if it has never been apart. Once the agitator pulls out, you should be able to see the debris you are looking for.
I am not familiar with your exact machine, but yours should be similar. Hope this helps.

Water overflow

The water level switch is causing the prob, it could be sticking for one reason or another, for example it could be a partial blockage in the pressure chamber or the hose from the chamber to the switch.,it works on air pressure,so it must be clear of any restriction.
You need to check this before anything else.
Hope this helps solve your prob.
Plz rate my solutiopn.
thanks.

Hoover 500m spin cycle

That sounds like a broken motor couplin, slack drive belt, or worn bearings.
A repair person can determine which is it. I cant tell from here. However,
If you do this test you can eliminate one of the above. Lift the lid of the washer, hold the rim of the inner-tub and spin it clockwise and then anti-clockwise. If it spins both ways, you have a bad bearing which needs replacing.

Final spin drum knocks and is unbalanced, never used to do this.

Hello, if your clothing are sorted imbalanced you will have that problem. Ensure they are evenly distributed.
If that doesnt solve the problem, there is a bolt that is broken on the agitator shaft. Lift out the top cap from the agitator, take out the plastic seal beneath, remove the bolt, lift agitator out.
There are two horizontal bolts holding the inner-drum to the shaft. replace both.Be sure to tighten all the way.
