20 Most Recent Tasco 350x50mm Refractor Novice Telescopes Questions & Answers

This is a VERY small 50mm telescope, the same size as a pair of 10x50mm binoculars. It really is too small to use for Astronomy. These are usually used as simply a display piece or to look at objects on the ground a long way off. ONLY the 25mm eyepiece will be useful-- the others have too much magnification for this very small aperture scope.

Sorry.

This is a very simple refractor style telescope-- put the diagonal into the back of the telescope then put ONLY the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the diagonal. Practice focusing during the day time -- on a distant object.

This is just like the scope Galileo used 400 years ago! Nothing to it-- but realize that it is ONLY 50mm in aperture the same size as a pair of 10x50mm binoculars.

I would start out with the minimum power eyepiece (the one with the largest number) and no barlow lens (throw it away). You might try without the diagonal just in case it is the problem, but it is unlikely to be causing this. If you can't get a reasonable image at low power, then the scope may be faulty or damaged.

A small telescope is not capable of much magnification, despite what it says on the box. You get dim blurry blobs if you try to go much over 50x or so, maybe less with this scope. Tasco scopes are not noted for their optical quality, and the eyepieces are often poor.

There is an excellent website for beginner telescope users at THIS LINK

You will not find one for this very simple 50mm telescope. EVEN IF YOU DID THE MANUAL WILL NOT TELL YOU HOW TO USE THE TELESCOPE. IT ONLY HAS ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS.

Read my tips in my profile section. This scope is 50mm in aperture, exactly the same as a pair of 10x50mm binoculars.

The binoculars would have been better for astronomy.

Here is your manual:

http://www.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/tasco/tasco_telescope_product_list.html

You will need to register to download it. The manual will NOT help you learn how to use your telescope. It only has assembly instructions. Objects in the sky are tiny and dim, smaller than the tip of your finger held at arms length.

Measure the hole on the telescope diagonal. Eyepieces come in .965, 1.25, and 2 inch sizes.

Many on-line retailers sell them here is one:

These can be bought from several on-line retailers. Try Telescope Warehouse on Ebay-

That is the 'Sun' filter.
You will need to remove that for normal viewing.
Also be aware, that looking directly at the sun through the telescope, could pemanently damage your vision.
If you want to observe the sun, look to the side of it.
You can also buy a filter, for viewing the moon.
Happy stargazing ;)
& don't forget a nice thumbs up rating for me. Thankyou ;)

Astronomy is a learned skill- I would suggest that you contact a local Astronomy club and attend their meetings and their free star parties-- ask lots of questions and see what kind of telescopes they use.

The moon is big so use the 25mm. The Barlow will have a multiplication marking on it 2x 3x etc. A 2x Barlow lens will effectively double the power of the eyepiece you are using. Do not use the erecting eyepiece for anything other than land viewing. Erecting eyepieces generally reduce the amount of light reaching your eye and thus reduce brightness of the faint objects in the sky.
So basically just place the 25 mm lens in the focuser and point the scope at the moon and you will be amazed at what you can see and how bright it is.
