Verifone has a built in safe-guard against tampering. There are certain things that can cause the new Vx Series of terminals to display this error - from someone actually tampering with the terminal, to a physical drop or jarring of the terminal.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the ONLY way for a terminal to be unlocked when displaying "Tamper" is to send it into an authorized service center. I have many of these devices in the field for customers and have dealt with this issue a few times - unfortunately, that's the only way Verifone set it up for this error to be resolved.

I have that problem a lot with this model. Unless it's 'sticking' which would mean its dirty... this in my opinion needs to be repaired. That is what i always do in this case.

By verifpne readers are you referring to an actual credit card processing machine or the type that attaches to a cell phone or tablet? they will need to be activated for the processor you are using. you may want to call your processor to see if they are compatible.

check the modem connections, check on another computer if you can log into yahoo.com, also make sure your using Ethernet connection for dynamic not static.
press the * key, then comm serv, then the tool icon, then troubleshoot, then repair, then you can see what is the issue. if you press ping you can enter yahoo.com using the keypad for letters. then press enter and continuous test, this will tell you if you are connecting to the internet at all. unplug all power and cords, from terminal and modem wait 1 min, plug all back in, power is last to be plugged in, see if this reboots the settings. change where the modem is connected it might be just that port on modem.

there is only an internal battery that can not be removed

Yes, digital phone lines work fine for credit card authorizations, because it's a quick dial out and transfering of data. But batching process takes longer and you will have communication problems with your terminal on any digital, VOIP, or cable phone lines. Analog is the only way to fix this problem. NO credit card machine is immune to this problem.

Unfortunately, no. Unless you're willing to risk breaking the display lense on the Omni terminals you can try and pry-off the display lense very carefully starting at the leftside edge of the display lense and slowly lift off the lense. By doing this, you'll need to let the double-sided sticky tape used to apply the lense lift off the case/housing. In most cases it would be wise to send in the terminals for general cleaning/maintenance. I can do these for you cheaply.
