Hello Jack,
I think, your oven is controled by a timer?
If so, there is a problem with the timer. Timers are often source of problems. When I refurbish a cooker and tghe timer is gone, I never replace it. They are very costly.
You can bypass the timer. When you google on "bypass the oven timer" you can find solutions.
WHEN YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS KIND OF WORK, THEN LEAVE IT TO A QUALIFIED ENGINEER.
The link I sent you is just for information. Succes, Dik
Well found you when tried to bypass my timer too For
Some times s**t happens. The most likely situation is the wire connections that connect the heater have burnt off, or simply just become disconnected.
the normal repair or replacement to the lower heater element would be to disconnect the wires from the heating element by sliding the wire off of the spade connector. Some times they are connected by a screw and nut terminal. Next to remove the screws from inside the oven, and then pull the element out from the back wall. I can see how you could easily interpret that they would slide out like many stove top elements.
In your situation confirm that power is off.
Remove back panel and check terminal' connections to the heating element. repair.

Hope this helps?
Question edited for clarity and toss in a load of CAPS!
It is a gas appliance and must only be worked on by a gas certified technician. It is likely to be the igniter to the oven, or more likely the Thermocouple safety device.

If your Hotpoint stove is beeping and displaying a "bad line" error, it could be indicating a problem with the electrical connection to the stove. Here are some things you can try to stop the beeping and resolve the error:
Check the power cord for any damage or fraying. If the cord is damaged, it should be replaced.
Make sure that the electrical outlet is functioning properly. Test it with another appliance to ensure that it is providing power.
Check the circuit breaker or fuse for the stove. Make sure that it has not tripped or blown.
Make sure that the stove is properly grounded. This may require a professional electrician.
If the error message continues to appear, the problem might be with the stove's internal wiring and it would be best to contact a Hotpoint service agent, who can inspect the stove and determine the cause of the problem.
