Laptop sound
To start, it may be a longshot, but try turning off bluetooth, in case that is interfering with the sound, or sending the sound elsewhere, like to a bluetooth speaker or cell phone. Also, try downloading the ESET NOD32 online virus scanner using Fireofox, to rule out any pesky viruses messing with your VAIO.If problem persists....Open the start menu, and check around for any VAIO support software that can check your system for errors and hopefully fix them.If problem persists....Open the sound icon next to the date and time on the lower right portion of the screen, and open the mixer, where you are able to see the volume for mic, speaker, and a bunch of other things. Check to see that no mute has been selected, or that no audio has been disabled. If problem persists....Look inside the control panel, and find sounds and audio. When you open it, click around and see it the wrong audio device got somehow selected, or if NO audio device is selected, and go ahead and select a different device from the drop down menu to see if picking another device fixed the issue. If problem persists....Next look inside your device manager, and see if the audio device shows up, and hopefully it does, then see if it has a yellow exclamation point next to it. Even if it does not, click on it, and find the option to add or update the driver for it. You may have to insert the restore DVD that (hopefully) came with your VAIO. If problem persists....The next options, in case nothing has worked, are to do a full reinstall of your Windows OS, drastic but we are at that point. Or else, I have seen instances where the actual sound card in the laptop has died, which would be one reason why Windows no longer recognizes any audio device as being there.I hope one of these fixed the issue for ya!
