There are 2 black plastic dust covers that get bowed after the years and catch the carrier at the seam where they meet. They may just be loose so first try pushing them down. If that dosen't work take a sharp object and round off the top edge where they meet. If all fails gently remove them it will work fine without them.DickyO

Go to the IBM web site, select your printer model and OS type. Follow the onscreen instructions.

It should have been sent to pasture many years ago as it is 35 years old!

Check if they are on the wheel. They had a habit of spokes snapping off.

Remove the print wheel and wash with soap and water. Turn the typewriter off and reinstall the print wheel,

Turn off, remove print wheel, turn on, turn off, reinstall print wheel, turn on. Make sure PROPORTIONAL SPACING is not selected.

Two things. Multipart forms have a film on the top copy. Change the ribbon to another brand. Some work better than other. Probably if it printing some on the top copy, and it works on regular paper. If it does work on regular paper its the ribbon may be old or change to different brand. A work around is to use eraser on the form where you going to print. This will the remove the film, and allow to type there.
