Audio problem
Open the Control panel
2. Open the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon.
3. Verify the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" checkbox is checked. If this option is not available or is grayed out, skip to the next section of this document.
4. If you were able to check this box, click ok and close out of this window and the Control Panel.
5. Double-click the sound icon in the Systray and verify that all the sound volumes are mid-way or higher.
Check Windows services. Right Click My Computer and Manage. Choose Services and Application > Services. Choose "Windows Audio" and set to Automatic and Start.
Now next you can do is
If you open control panel & click device manager the window that opens will show a list of all installed hardware. Look for anything with an exclamation mark beside it, or to do with sound. If you see anything, right click it, check it isn't Disabled then select "Properties." The next window should have some tabs along the top, the one you are looking for is "Driver," you should now see an "Update driver" button.
Check ur sound card information by doing this
Click on start menu
Click on Run
Type dxdiag, enter
Click on the sound tab
There is button of test direct sound click on this check if there is sound
Check ur registry. Check if the sound registry key is enabled or disabled. There could be an error in registry, run registry cleaner reg in out to scan for errors.

I would like to connect
There are a few ways to connect a laptop to the internet. First, there's hard-line (such as a modem cord, or phone-cable) and with a laptop, that's it unless you have a wireless card. I do believe your model (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductList.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=430816&taskId=135) has a wireless card, but as you can see there are MANY versions of the 2200! For the most part, your particular exact model won't matter.
If you have wireless somewhere, all you need is the access codes if there is security on the wireless networks.
If you don't have wireless, and don't have internet service at the place you wish to connect at (such as your home) and have not set that up yet, you have a few options
1) Get internet at that place (such as your house; you'll call and they'll come install it, and usually rent or sell you a modem of some kind. The sales reps usually can explain what they offer and tell you what would work best).
2) Call a cell phone company and see if they offer a service of the same kind, either at the house OR via a phone/your current phone service (etc). Often this entails a cable from your laptop to the phone, or a SIM card in the laptop, or a PCMCIA card (check ebay for these, before you buy into a plan, some might be outdated so get informed).
3) Dig around; there's tools out there that one can use to make a wireless PCMCIA or express card or USB wireless device that can uplink to a satelite (usually this is more expensive). Also youtube might have some information on how to get free internet.
You will need to get internet either in a public "wifi hotspot" (often free at public libraries or coffee shops in the USA), or via a hardware line to your residence.
There isn't a way to plug a laptop in directly to the internet at a residence without some kind of modem, though you CAN often use the telephone lines directly into a PC to use software for faxing and telephone stuff.
good luck!

There is a power supply
Then the motherboard is dead most likely. If you have no power to the fan or monitor that would be my guess. You should try checking the output voltage on the charger make sure its good with a volt meter.

Where is wireless switch on
On the last Compaq laptop I had, there was a touch sensitive strip running along the top above the keyboard, with controls for things like speaker volume. And there was also a picture of a little radio tower with enlarging waves emanating from it, that is to turn the wifi on and off.

How do i remove my compaq presario 2200's hard
The Compaq Presario line is one of the longest-running series of computers, originating in 1993 and remaining in production even after the purchase of Compaq by HP. Because of this, many Compaq Presario desktops have required that some of their parts be upgraded or replaced because of the wear that they have received over years of standard use. One of the more commonly replaced Presario desktop components is the hard drives, especially given how much hard drive storage capacity has increased since the Compaq Presario line was introduced. Replacing a hard drive in a Compaq Presario desktop isn't difficult, and can usually be done in a matter of minutes even for users who aren't familiar with computer upgrades.
structions
-
Step 1Remove the screws holding the left side panel of the computer on, then slide the panel back to remove it. Set both the panel and the screws aside so that you can put the panel back in place once the hard drive has been replaced.
- Step 2Unplug the ATA (wide, flat and usually gray) or SATA (thicker, thin and red) data cable and the power cable from the back of the hard drive that is currently in the Compaq Presario. Move the cables so that they will be out of the way, but make sure that they will still be easily accessible to you so that you can plug them into the new hard drive.

Recovery cd here is what show up when i turn on
You did not mention what is the manufacturer and what is the operating system you have but you can try following:
hal.dll is the file which protects your hardware devices to access the memory directly. HAL ( Harware Abstraction Layer).
To repair hal.dll we would require the recovery discs else you can try recovery console in your computer
1. press the power button and keep tapping on F 11 for HP computer and ctrl+F11 for Dell computer
2. check if you get a Recovery Manager
3. you can perform a recovery from here
