Hello Carmen, Hi, If the brightness control won't do much, looks like the LCD back lamp an/or the LCD inverter module is going bad. eventually you won't see anything on the screen. Make do of the screen for now, until the lamp/inverter fails or replaced in advance. make the most out of it. You need it serviced by a technician or the dealer.

Most laptops vary teh speed of the porcessor as needed, as a power saving measure. Less speed uses less power.

When the laptop is idle it drops the speed and increases as more is needed.

Hello.

The most common reasons are the power adapter/cord and power jack.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

Try connecting an external USB keyboard.

If that does not work, then it's time to contact HP, and order a replacement motherboard, or to purchase a brand-new notebook, or, if the product is still under "warranty", to make a warranty claim, to get HP to fix it, at their cost.

yes, after looking up your laptop on hp's website, I have determined the kind of memory you need; (assuming your computer is the one you put in the question, HP Pavilion ze4805us Notebook PC)

you need 2x 512 mb, 200-pin, DDR 266 memory

I looked and found some Corsair (highly respected company in computer memory) memory, for 22.99 for each DIMM (you'll need to buy 2); see link below.

If you have any more questions, please let me know!

Thanks,

Most likely it is either a bad lcd inverter, due to the fact that you have clear picture on an external monitor. The inverter reduces the voltage coming from the motherboard to a lower level in order to power the lcd and the backlight. If this goes bad then you either get a picture randomly, a dim picture, or no picture on the lcd.

If your hard drive is dead, (no hard drive found), you're going to have to have a new one (hardware) installed before you can re-install the OS and drivers (software). I doubt that you'll be able to retrieve data from the dead hard drive short of herioc (and expensive) measures.

Sorry - hope you were backing-up your data frequently.

If I can be of further assistance, or if you have questions about any of my response(s), please let me know before rating me.

If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly. My goal is to earn a "Very Helpful" rating from everyone I help.

Thanks for using Fixya.com,

Hello, Jessie.

There is a hidden Administrator account that is created when your operating system is installed. Access that account and add your own account.

1. Boot your computer and press F8 repeatedly
2. Access Safe Mode
3. Key in “Administrator” in Username, with no password.
4. Go to Control Panel, then User Accounts
5. Create your account.

Hope this helps
