Hi Scanners usually require a driver and a version of twain that are both compatible with the machine and with the OS you are using. You don't mention the OS you are using but if you go here: Memorex mem48u flatbed scanner drivers xp 7 there seem to a number of different drivers etc (which should include twain) for your machine and various OSs. One of these should work fine for you, although I do see a potential problem if you are running Win8 as I didn't see a driver for it. This solution worked for me. I have 64-bit version of Vista. If you have 64-bit version of Vista this is the only thing that I have found to work.

What I did was used a different scanners driver for my Memorex 6142u. I used the Hamrick version of the Canon N1220U scanner driver. The best way to do this is to plug the USB cord into the computer. Vista will try and find the driver for you and fail. then go to device manager. It will say that it isn't working properly. Then fix the driver by selecting from the list of drivers that Vista has packaged with it.

The back page has the specifications for what kind of power cord you need, depending on what country you live in. The US one at least (120V/60Hz) is a very generic cord option and should be easy to find at any tech store. Good luck.

Yuor scanner was originally manufactured by BenQ and OEMed as a Memorex product.

I will try to direct you to the proper place to get the driver. However, because you did not specify the OS it will be necessary for you to take a few extra steps.

I recommend you go to driverguide.com. WHile I do not endorse them, I have used this site for over 15 years. It may be a little cumbersome to use, but I have never gotten 'bad' stuff from it.

If the link above does not work directly then you must go to the main site and type 'mem48u' in the seach area.

Welcome to Fixya. As for your question unfortunatelly Memorex did not release a driver for MEM48U for Windows 7. If you still have the old driver installer of the scanner you have 2 options. You can try to run it in Compatibility mode to check if it will work with Windows 7 or use XP Virtual Machine for Windows 7. Virtual machine will works with Windows 7 Ultimate and Pro but not with Home editions.
XP Virtual Machine

1. install the MEM48U software from the disk,
2. restart the XP VM (from the Action menu on the XP VM window),
3. then plug in your scanner,
4. then from the USB menu on the XP VM window select Unidentified Device to attach it to the XP VM
5. XP should Find New Hardware and install it
6. You should be able to use it through TWAIN connection to your software

Compatibility Mode:
Right click setup EXE (Driver), select properties, compatibility tab, select "run this program in compat. mode for" checkbox, and select XP sp2 as the OS in the dropdown box.
Virtual Machine will make it work however if you dont have the right version of Windows 7 then try compatibility mode.

you are lost your driver to download your device suitable driver use http://devid.info step to download driver my computer manage, device manager, property on device whose driver are not found copy device id code displayed on example above site copy it and use to download suitable device driver after download extract and go to update driver whose device are installed enjoy

You might have to completely uninstall the scanner, then try reloading the disk. You can uninstall it in device manager. You can check the computer's HELP and support for better instruction on have to remove hardware.

Well it should be detevted without the need of any drivers in Windows Xp, if you are using other OS, try installing the support cd that came with your Memorex scanner (it is the mini cd(always) in the package).
