Good Eevening :

You could get original disk from ebay at times but all you need is the Activesync that can be downloaded from Microsoft. Get Active sync 4.2. The newer ones do NOT work with the X5.

Good luck with the wireless card. The Axim does not play well with many of them. (sometimes works but mostly not) Try drivers from d Link and be sure to remove the old drivers first.

Dell Axim problem

Most likely a bad connection along the sides of the screen causing a line of "dead" pixels. I have a similar problem with an old GPS reciever (several lines). You could attempt to repair but that would be risky unless you purchased a new working screen and replaed the entire screen (can find on ebay at times)

Non recognition of password

That would be very difficult.

In my experiences of trying to get all the data out of a pda when its in a locked state, when trying to access it from the pc the pda decided to shut it self down.

In the end I had to perform a hardreset to get it to work again.

In theory, if you could somehow tap into the ram and copy all its contents into your pc. But this ram might be protected or encypted.

Its very difficult, since your data is stored in RAM witch will empty itself when the power is cut. (battery removed or other shortcircuit)

If you know the password you are typeing is correct and it still wont login, then there is most likely a software problem witch would require a hard reset.

Battery Charge - First Use

My experience was similar to yours. The LED turned green after about only 2 hours. Because I didn't want to stay up until midnight to start playing with my Axim, I took it out of the cradle after the 2 hours and everything was fine. Besides, having downloaded and read the user's guide 2 days before receving my Axim, I knew that a green LED meant it was ready to go. 3 days later, everything is still fine and seems normal. A year ago, I received a Palm with similar initial charging requirements, and it also didn't take as long as the directions said it would.

Old unit not powering on

Hold down the power button and push the reset button. Then select the corresponding cancel button (unless you want to loose everything. If that doesn't work, pull the battery and the backup battery. You will loose everything but it might bring it back to life.

Just reset to turn on

It looks like the power button isn't working (not to be smart or anything). There is a setting to allow the device to power on if you push a button. You can always try opening it up and seeing if there is any corrosion on the power button or maybe a cold solder joint.

PDA will not turn on

If it isn't completely broken, I would recommend a few things:
1.hold down the power button, and push reset. It will ask you if you want to wipe the contents of your device. Push the button to cancel.
2.Pull the main battery and the backup battery. This will wipe everything on your device but it may get it up and running again.

Can the Axim connect to a mobile phone ...

I can connect my Axim X5 to the Internet using my mobile phone via infrared without a problem. You need to create a new dial-up connection using "Generic Infrared" modem in the setup. The number to be dialled is a function of your mobile phone. On my Nokia 6230i the "number" is *99# for creating a GPRS connection. Your mobile phone has to be correctly set up for Internet access and obviously you have to have a data plan.

Pocket PC 2003 Internet Explorer

Try using minimo (mini mozilla). Make sure to download the minimo 4.2 version - it can be download here: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
Unfortunately this browser drains the CPU like crazy and you'll have to wait for a long time.

There is also a site www.skweezer.com (accessed from your axim ppc) that will allow you to access http://m.yahoo.com
1)you can search for "yahoo mobile" or...
2)create a free account and bookmark http://m.yahoo.com (there is a setting to put it on your skweezer homepage for faster access)
The issue with Skweezer is that it is a transcoder, so I believe all the info. goes through their server. If you aren't too worried about privacy this is a good option. In the future all you have to do is access skweezer and click yahoo.

My Dell Axim X5 400MHz Pocket PC wont hold the charge

Some people have said that the original ppc2002 ROM has battery draining problems. If this is something new, perhaps it is a bad battery. Ebay for a new one.

If you think it might be a software problem and you have ppc2002-also known as Windows Mobile 2002, upgrade your Axim with the A04 ROM:http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R63937&SystemID=PDA_AXIM_X5&servicetag=&os=PPC&osl=en&deviceid=4434&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=7&fileid=82832

Other Axim stuff here (make sure to choose the correct operating system - ppc 2002 or ppc 2003): http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=PDA_AXIM_X5&category=0&os=PPCA&osl=EN

Looking for a Wi-Fi card for a Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC

According to http://www.socketmobile.com/pdf/wireless-lan/go-wi-fi_spec.pdf it looks like you have to have Windows Moblie 5 or 6 or Windows CE.

The Axim X5 can only go up to Windows Mobile 2003 (Mobile 5 is the one after this).

My suggestion is sell the REALLY great Socket card and get one that works with your X5 (you have either Pocket PC 2002 or Windows Mobile 2003) If you Ebay search Dell TrueMobile, you'll find the card that works with either.

I need mine too, so it looks like we'll have a bidding war.

Axim Record Button Does Not Work

Try taking off the left black rubber stripping and see if the button underneath is lined up correctly. Perhaps take a look inside to see that all the contacts are good.

This site will help with how to take off rubber part and open the Axim: http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=GHT&Category_Code=_axim_takeapart

Align screen loop?

Look at this http://www.fixya.com/support/t132057-getting_past_align_screen

you basically need to get the wire to stop touching the home key, which can be accomplished (as described in the link) with either the quick fix method, wedging something in the bottom screen, or the better-long term method of opening the axim up and taping the part that has shorted.

Dell axim

This worked for me and was found at (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13366). The link may not work so below are the instrunctions.

This link will help you visualize the process: http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=GHT&Category_Code=_axim_takeapart

Trobbins Instructions:
I have a Dell Axim and was frustrated that my screen was freezing up. I went surfing on the web and luckily stumbled upon the answer. There is likely a burned hole on a small thin mylar piece on the inside of the unit. Before you give up and throw it away, let me tell you how to fix it because it is easy enough that I was able to do it - and I am NOT a computer geek at all.
Back up the unit on your computer.
Take all batteries and the memory stick out.
Turn the unit over and carefull pull the black rubber feet from the top, the black rubber circles out of the bottom, and the black rubber side panels. They are stuck on with a rubber cement compound, so just pull carefully and try to preserve the sticky as much as possible.
Unscrew the six screws along the back and carefully open the unit. (Don't be afraid...it's not working now so you've got nothing to lose!)
On the lower left corner you'll want to pull straight up and out the speaker connection - a small square plastic piece w/ metal prongs.
Just push it back out of your way so you can lift the motherboard out. When you pull it out, look at the bottom right hand side and you'll see a small thin mylar film. Look carefully at the left hand side of it and see if you see something that looks like a burnt hole. If so, that's the problem. It's causing some kind of communication problem with the screen. Here's all you have to do. Take a small piece of electrical tape and place it over the mylar film. Then put the pc back together in the reverse order of how you got it open.
Mine is working like a champ now!! It really is easy so don't be intimidated.
Hope this works for you as it did for me!

-----------------------------------------------------------
Let me know how it works and if you have any questions (grandgregojunk [at] yahoo.com) - An Axim is a terrible thing to waste... when it's easily fixed.

PDA internet

You do not need the card slot for internet, you can put a memory card in there to store your data.
The PDA supports Wifi, so it is able to connect to a wireless network, as long as it is in range and it is allowed to access the network.
I don't know if you've got the manual. Anyway, you can find it here.
How to make a connection is explained in section 10, under 'Creating an ethernet connection'. I think a network card is already installed in your PDA.

You can manage email by using the pre-installed Microsoft Outlook. How to use this is also explained in the manual, in section 6.

If you need any further help, just post your question.
