My dell inspiron 1000, boots up and I can hear

There are several things to check on that model.
  1. Power system off, turn it over, tighten all screws on the bottom and back (The LCD gets it's ground thru the hinges and if the screws get loose the LCD can go off)
  2. Press Fn+F8 then wait 15 seconds or so, see if you get any video, if not repeat. See if the LCD was disabled for external video.
  3. If those don't get any video on the LCD, then try connecting an external monitor and see if you get video.
  4. If none of that works then the LCD/LCD backlight has failed and you'll need to replace LCD and or the backlight if sold as a seperate unit

How do i get my sound ro work on my dell inspiron

I guess there is a driver issue, either there is not a proper driver or isn't installed properly.

You didn't mentioned the Operating System, So I'm assuming it is XP, and here the Audio Driver for XP Inspiron 1000.

If you are using some other OS, do tell me, I'll give you the proper driver than.

I hope this will help you out,

Regards, WAQAR.

I just changed out me screen on my dell inspiron

Please make sure that you have reconnected all connectionpoints, and if there is a grounding strap - a flat woven wire connected to the monitor and the laptop's motherboard - ensure that it, too, has been tightly connected.

My laptop screen become blank and stays that way

Before we go into the BIOS, lets try a few other things first. Go to the control panel, you get there by going to the start button and then to settings and there will be the control panel. Once there look for your "power options", open power options and look for the heading "closing the lid", when you find this, click on the drop down menu and choose "do nothing". Then look at the tabs at the top of the window and open the tab for Hibernation and turn it off. If you have windows 7, these changes can be made from the edit power plan settings. Try to edit the power settings first before messing with the BIOS.

My network does not work

Check the device manager in windows and see if there is an exclamation mark on a network adapter. If there is right click it and update driver. If there is no exclamation then you can try to remove and reinstall your network adapter(s). If it seems to be fine in windows its prob not the cause of your problem. Good luck.

I can only get about 2 hours out of my battery,

Is this a new purchase?

Sometimes batteries take 2-3 charge and discharges to be able to reach the manufacturers specs.

If this is not a new purchase then you have a faulty battery. Unfortunately batteries are not under warranty replacement. You could try to make a claim, but I doubt they will come to the party.

You could make noises about misleading advertising and consumer affairs, good luck

Battery will not charge. Got startup message

The power adapter MUST BE a Dell brand power adapter.
If it is, then the socket that was replaced is not the right part.
Of course, the laptop can work just fine with the power adapter, it justwon't charge the battery.
