Sharp aquos will not turn on. power opc light flashing
I got a Sharp Aquos Quattron LC-60LE847U, a 60inch LED TV, I only brought it for a year and 4 months, factory only a have one year warranty. Last week when my kid try to turn on the TV, the TV power light keep repeat blinking in 2 slow and 5 fast sequence, don't know what did it mean. When I press the power button, the light will stay on for few seconds and it kept blinking after, the TV cannot turn on at all.
My kid have called the Sharp help line in US, number found in user manual, but the Canada help line are different number, it is 1-877-278-6709, they told my kid to unplug the TV, hold down the Input and the Volume down key, then plug the power back on, the TV can turn into service mode, it have a K icon on the screen, but every time I selected the menu, it went away very quick. Then the customer assistant told my kid to call service.
When I did a lot of research, every solution seems to point to the power supply, so I bought a power supply from ebay, replaced it, it does the same thing, no different at all, then I turn the TV back on in service mode, to try to do a reset from the menu, upgrade the firmware, re-seat all ribbon cables of the main board and the middle logic board (Not sure what is that board call, it is in the middle of the TV), neither way can make any different, the TV light still blinking in same sequence.
So I kept doing the research, I find out another way to reset the TV back to factory setting just by holding down the Volume up and Channel down, then plug in the TV, kept hold it down those 2 buttons until the TV came back on. TV will reset for just by doing this. Happy news, problem seems to get fixed, but not 100 %. The TV seems no problem to turn off and on after reset, but if I unplugged it, the blinking problem will come back, but if I reset it one more time, it will works again until I unplug it again. It is better than completely dead.
Then I unplug the TV, removed all ribbon cables (6 ribbon connectors), use sand paper to clean all the ribbon cable contacts, don't rub it too hard in case the cable contacts get destroy, then re-seat all the ribbon cables. After I did that, everything back to normal and my TV got fixed completely.
This seems to be my way to fix it, not sure everyone can use the same method to fix their blinking power light problem, but I hope this tips can help some people to save big buck to the Sharp service. This TV is over $2000 dollars and I brought few pair of the expensive 3D glasses, I do hope it can last longer, didn't expect it have problem already, it just less than a year and half old and even I bought the power supply to tried to fix it but I ended up didn't needed to spend any money and solved the problem.
Hope this helps.
