Try a new preformatted disc, if this wont boot, your drive is stuffed, you may be able to format this disc in the camera but then it wont load in your computer, so its not much good, cost of repair will exceed cam value. dump it

just unprotect the floppy disks...

undo the disk protection tab on the floppy disk

You can download the latest Sony driver here. Since the camera is over a decade old it's unlikely Sony or anybody else will be writing new drivers for it.
