SENT IT TO SONY

Sony Cyber-Shot... | Answered on Dec 31, 2008

I think I'm having the same problem, but I'm a little confused by your message, so I'm not sure. "In the beginning...reddish, end...stripes....images...OK." Seems contradictory. I'm having the display problem, too, but my image files are like what I see on the display, so I think I have the CCD issue that Sony describes at http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=118&mdl=DSCF717. They give instructions for obtaining a free (postage-paid!) fix. But if your images are okay, it sounds like you have a display-only problem that might not qualify. Anyway, check it out, and good luck.

Try cleaning the contacts on the memory stick. I've read that a pencil eraser should be used; I used a soft cloth (T shirt) & then I blew into the slot in the camera that holds the memory stick to clean anything that may be interfering with making a good contact. First try: success!

You either have a bad CCD or aperture. Look down into the lens when the camera is on, is there a small opening at the bottom? If theres a small open circle at the bottom, your CCD is bad not the aperture. Its very possible your camera is covered under a huge CCD recall but I cant figure out this site so Im not sure what your model is. If its F717, Sony will fix it free. www.darntoothysam.com

Take that camera in anyway. I still beleive you have a CCD problem.

There is a difference in the way the CCD shifts out data when in movie mode and that might be why you still have a good picture.

I personally replace acouple CCD`s on the DSC-F717. And yes Sony paid us on behalve of the customer.

Be nice to the front-end staff when taking it in. It might prove a very good investment.

Good luck.

Hello,
If you have little knowledge of electronics hardware, then open the cabinet of camera and pull out every flexible connection cable and reinsert them. I would like to advise you to pay full attention while doing so, because these felxible cables ban be break easily and keep distance from Flash Circuit as it holds enough voltage for nice electric shock :)) hope porblem will be resolve.
