It could be the FSD(flame supervisery divice)not opening correctly starving the burner of gas.

the oven igniter gets red hot but the oven wont lite still

There must be a problem in one of the switches which is behind one of the knobs. Will have to check each switch with a meter.

Well, the igniter needs to be replaced. They go bad after a lot of use, if you replace it and it's still not sparking, let me know but 99% of the time replacing the igniter will fix the problem.

you need to check the ignitor ans see if it is working correctly.if this is malfuncting then it needs to be replaced it may not be drawing enough current to open the gas valve.

they all should click when any burner is tried ignitor at the problem burner is shorted or damaged

More than likely, you have a bad igniter on the bake manifold in the oven. As the igniters age from repeated use, they can become weak and longer function properly. The burner manifolds in the oven each use a glow bar or electrode type igniter with a gas safety valve to ignite. Both oven manifolds are controlled by the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board, which is your clock/timer on the control panel. If the surface burners work, but the oven does not, the problem is usually not a gas related issue. Since the broiler still works, its more than likely not a control board issue, either.

There are usually only 2 things to check on a tappan. The thermostat or the igniter. The Temp control is pretty sturdy on these, so the order of failure will be, igniter first, then thermostat.

you may need to replace the igniter . if you have an AMP meter you can test the igniter it must pull 3.6 AMPs to open the gas valve..hope it helps

just need to change out orifices in gas line natural gas company should have new ones in stock

the problem 99% of the time is the ignitor. even though its glowing its not pulling enough amps to open the bi-metal in the gas valve. id replace both ignitors if yours has two

sounds like a power problem .. I would first check the cord and ther terminal black if ok then I would go to the control... there is ware I would start..

Dont start the oven, the burner valve is faulty, the appliance is not safe call in a repairman.

does it have a knob in front or is it a panel to operate bake broil ? if it has a oven knob take it off and look in the back of the knob you adjust it there if it is electric if it is gas you need to use a small screw driver in the stem where the knob goes on and turn a little screw in there to ajust temperture turn clockwize to adjust temp up

try replacing the oven igniter/ glow bar the thing you see light up it sounds like it is weak you can tell if it glows with a white color in the bar it should glow a bright orange color
