Part of the problem is likely either bad values in the registry or insufficient privileges in part of the registry. Delete anything in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Canon folder, and make sure you have permissions in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ before attempting a reinstall. You might also run a program like Jouni Vuorio's RegCleaner. If you can't get it to work, I'll buy the Axis 1610 off you ... I've been looking for one, but they're no longer available.

If the router/modem has WPS:

WPS Connection Method
  1. Make sure that the printer is turned on. Press & hold the [Wi-Fi] button on the top of the printer until the alarm lamp flashes once.
  2. Make sure that the lamp next to this button starts to flash blue and then go to your access point and press the [WPS] button within 2 minutes.

If your router does not have a clearly marked 'WPS' button, please use the CD with your computer to perform the standard wireless installation.

If you are using a USB lead to connect, remove it and reconnect it. your computer should reconfigure it.
If you are using a network cable or WIFI, there is a possibility you have set your printer using DHCP which enables your printer to automatically pick up and ip address, (this can change at any time) the problem with this is the driver on your pc will not automatically change the ip address (port) so has no way of sending data to your printer as the port it is trying to send the data too is offline or alternatively assigned to another device.
I would set your printer up on a static ip address and change the port in your driver to match.

Chromebooks do not use drivers to install printers. They use Google Cloud print. There are two methods of printing with Google Cloud print, using a Google Cloud Print ready printer or setting up the service on your computer.
