Black And White w/Horizontal Lines?

Canon powershot a300

Try to clean batteries host's contacts (cover and inside). By the way, did you charged the batteries before inserting them to camera. In case of a positive answer did you checked their voltage after charging ?

Black LCD

Defective ccd imager!! company will replace this ccd imager free of charge. Year 2002 up to 2005 released unit has a factory defect ccd imager. the company recalled those units and replaced with a stronger version of ccd imager ( they are still doing it). check it out.

Corrupted data

Only if this totally annoying to you. It is fairly inexpensive. Not worth repairing....
You could use a memory card dock (USB to your PC) to download and look at the pics.

Date and time will not stay set

Have you changed the CR2016 clock battery? See the picture and sentence at the bottom of the following webpage:

It's a common battery, available just about anyplace that sells batteries.

Does "formating memory card" means it deletes everything???....

Yes, when you format a memory card, it erases all its data. Nowadays many companies/manuals don't bother mentioning that, unfortunately :(

I just downloaded VaioSoft recovery software, but it keeps saying no device...

I've tried this software with my A310. My camera is not detectable by the software either. Really, you need to use a card reader with the VaioSoft software to recover your pictures.

This seems like to lens extending motor has gone. If it is out of warranty and the cost of a repair is expensive as you have discovered You will have great fun taking it to bits But you will not be able to repair it. So -new camera- eventually

Settings

To reset your camera back to the original settings, please switch ON your camera and press (keep it pressed) the MENU button for 10 seconds. You will be asked to "reset settings to default". press the left/right buttons and select OK
