Palm Zire 31 Handheld Questions & Answers
Touch screen will not respond
I had the exact problem as you, and was at my wit's end and ready to throw my Zire into the trash can, but decided to give it one last ditch effort by getting in touch with Palm tech support. Boy am I glad I did, because the solution was so easy: what you need to do is hold the power button while you do the hard reset (in the back, using a paper clip), but the key to this step is to keep your finger on the power button for a full 30 seconds. When I tried this same process before, I experienced what you are experiencing, but when I help the power button on for 30 seconds, just like the tech instructed me, it worked on the very first try. It was so easy and it fixed the problem. Give it a try!
Lost contacts on my Palm Zire 31
No, only if you synchronized with another device beforehand. Using Palm Desktop, eg, you could synchronize and get the list back.

Avia,
Sounds like a software problem. How long ago did you buy this product? I would have it swapped out if you could. There isn't much you can do from home. You need an expert to look at it. If you bring it back to the store that you bought it from, they should be happy to exchange it for you, free of charge. It is rarely the customers fault when stuff like that happens. Doesn't sound like water damage to me, so I'd be very surprised if they didn't exchange it for you. You may have to get it reconfigured if you can't exchange it. You'd have to bring it to the store you bought it from and have someone do it for you. This may cost a small charge. The good news is either one of these methods should leave you with a perfectly working Palm Zire for no charge to a very small fee. Hope this helped!

I would like to give my Zire 31 to a friend but
Do a HARD RESET on your PALM ZIRE 31.
A hard reset will erase everything on your device. All your data will be removed, and formats, preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings.
- Press and hold the Power (on/off) button on the front panel of your device.
- While holding Power, use an unfolded paper clip, or the reset tool at the tip of your stylus. Gently press and release the RESET button inside the hole on the back panel of your device (where's the reset hole?).
- If you see a progress bar (see below), keep holding the Power button.
- Next, the Palm Powered screen will appear. Release the Power button when you see it.
- You'll see a screen that asks: Erase all data? YES = "up" button NO = any other button. Press UP on your 5-way navigator to complete the hard reset.
Fell in water, how to dry out and recover?
First DO NOT TURN IT ON NO MATTER WHAT
If you do turn it on when wet then there is a high chance you will short the device
I would lay it out in some towels for a few days and let the water dry out. You can help it by blow drying every so often.
Wait at least 2 days before trying to power it up. IF it does power up, try to use the Palm Desktop software and get all the data out of the device before you actually start using it.
