CD/DVD will not burn DVD
Did you tell CDBurnerXP that you want to burn a CD? or to burn a DVD?
Does this happen with _EVERY_ "blank" disk that you insert, or just one disk?
Can your DVD-RW _read_ a previously-recorded CD? DVD?
If not, then that hardware is suspect.

how do you make a HD into a CD I am not reading this right.
all you can do is videos that are digitized and audio files and play them back as such using media player no conversion involved

Lol,don't worry i had the same thing, first make sure when you are writing a dvd you have changed the setting on nero to dvd,the progress bar at the bottom will change from 700megs to 4.7gigs... and its also depends wether you are writing 4,7 gigs or 8.4 gigs...try it out.

CD's won't burn right!
Try reinstalling the drivers for your CD bay.
Either the CD that came with the bay, or find them online ....
Right-Clickie your My Computer and find the name of your CD Bay in the list on the Hardware page ... delete it, or right-clickie and uninstall the driver.
Reboot the computer and it should re-detect the drive, or find the drivers you copied earlier.
If that doesn't solve the problem, then it might be the type of CDs that you are using. Have you changed brands lately??

Can't burn cd's
The lens could be dirty. I would try cleaning the lens of the drive.
here's a video on the cleaning I found from youtube, its annoyingly loud but shows how to clean the lens with rubbing alcohol.
may want to turn the volume down in advance:
its for a ps2 but the drive is basically the same, and you would clean the lens in the same way.
you will have to open the burner up to do the cleaning, the drive has 4 screws in the bottom, you will have to eject the tray of the drive so that it opens a little, theres a small hole on the front, then you will have to eject the clips on the front cover and the drive comes apart.
then you can do the cleaning, make sure you get all the dust out while your at it.
let me know how that goes.
Thanks,
Ekse
