It's time to learn how to clean your fax/copier if u get a black line when printing clean the glass on the scanner part of the unit. Use a lint free cloth. Get something like Endust for electronics or a screen cleaner. Lift the lid of the unit as if you were going to use the flatbed scanner, and clean everything that is glass. scan and see what happens.

Open the top cover of the printer.The press the coppy button and look if the moving scanner is on(there should be alot of light).If the scanner is working then the cable of the scanner unit is broker(JC39-00269A this is the oart nuber for it)or the laser scanner unit is broken(JC96-02821A this is the part number for the scanner unit).
If there is no light while coping thats mean you scanner lamp is broken
