I haven't encountered multiple beeps on shutdown - but multiple beeps on startup is usually an indication of a memory issue. Frequently can be resolved by simply taking memory modules out and re-inserting them.

If problem continues, may need to replace memory chip. If more than one chip, put one in at a time and startup to see which chip is causing the problem.

Not sure, based on your description of the problem, if this is the issue - but certainly worth a try.

Best of Luck!

Just a bad screen. There's not a cost-effectve fix for these things due to the age of this laptop and on top of that, these screens were incredibly rare even when they were first sold. If you must replace it, then your best bet would be to hunt down a whole unit (eBay would be your best bet) - it might take a while but your target price should not be over $20 delivered. That'd be your best bet.

Hello,

first, I will advice that you check the adapter, see if its still working. The adapter might be the reason your laptop is not working.

If you have confirmed that the adapter is still good, let me know so that I can direct you further.

Take care.

Best thing to do is,try to get a Windows 98 cd from a friend who has some computer skills and ask them to temporarily put in a cdrom drive in order to begin the process of repair. You will also need them to hook up a floppy drive in your computer,as you will need the floppy disk, containing the files to load the cdrom drivers and setup files to do the repairs to your windows 98 operating system....if not,you may need to upgrade to windows xp or Vista.Good luck:)

Have you tried booting into the Safe Mode?
This won't necessarily fix anything but will at least tell you if some of the Windows installation is intact.
When first powering it on, tap the F8 key as soon as anything appears on your screen.
If that doesn't do it, try F5 it varies dependent on Windows version and/or system.
If you can get to the Desktop (it will look awful-icons spread way past the screen limits) and run some initial checks on it such as chkdsk to see if the hard drive is intact.
If you get this far, post again and tell us what happened.

if you want to improve the speed of your laptop you could buy a faster harddrive with an higher rpm per minute than the one installed in the unit, that WILL speed up the system:), and yes its possible to boot from the 2gb flash card but i recommend if you are going to use a flash card you get a bigger one:)
Cheers

The main reason behind this pesky error is PFN. If it gets damaged anyhow, it directly affects the system. PFN or Page Frame Number is very essential for your Windows device. Your hard drive uses it get the path of every one of the files in your physical disk.
There is an abundance of other reasons that can boost this error. Reasons like:
  • Damaged or corrupted system drivers (Remove all the drivers and try to reinstall the driver from toshiba website https://support.toshiba.com)
  • Virus-infected Windows Registry (Scan your PC with Good Anti Virus-like Kaspersky or Bitdefender)
  • System drivers conflict after installing new hardware.
  • Corrupted system files. (Re-install the Windows)
  • System memory corruption (Try to change the RAM if it works.)
