You can select an alternate boot device by pressing F10 or F12 as the Toshiba is booting up. You will get a list of boot devices, move the left or right arrow to select the device you want to boot.
OR
Go into the BIOS configuration and change the boot order of the devices your want to boot up with.

You may try this; Turn OFF the laptop, remove the power sources (ac adapter and battery). Without power sources, hold power button 10 secs. Put back the power sources, and power ON the NB. If the laptop will not boot by doing this, take it to the nearest repair center to have it check for possible motherboard issue.

If the BIOS doesn't recognize the drive then there's a problem with the drive itself.

You'll need to swap it out with a new one. I'd recommend hooking up the old drive to a usb enclosure to double check whether the drive works or not.

OR you can just swap it out with the new one and reinstall the os.

There is some hardware problem, I would suggest you to take out the ram clean it and re-install them carefully.
If that doesn't work you will need to provide me with a more detailed info about your laptop.

The cable for the back light inverter board may have come off on the mother board side or on the screen side.

you may have a bad hdd. here is a link to hiren's boot cd. it is a free diagnostic tool that will allow to find out if the hard drive is damaged or has bad sectors. simply copy and paste this link into your browser then follow the instructions on how to create and use the cd. http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootablecd hope this helps.

re-install the sound driver. be sure driver is compatible to your laptop. and no conflict.
