Xerox Phaser 8400 Laser Printer Questions & Answers
My Xerox 8400 is printing
Try printing a light stripes test page (Troubleshooting, print quality problems, troubleshooting print quality page).
If you do not appear to have many missing jets but the colours are all just wrong it may be that the ink has gone stale. Run a couple of head cleans and you should see the colours start to improve. If it is getting better, all you can do is keep running head cleans until you have replenished all the ink in the printhead well.
This problem is common in situations where a lot of black and white printing is done, with very little colour.
Alternatively, it could be that your wiper/cleaning blade is not cleaning the head properly
and is smearing the different coloured inks across the head, or possibly that your
printhead is leaking colours but I think the first solution should solve your problem.
Hope this helps.
How to reset 108r00603
You need to replace the counter chip that's in the maintenance roller assembly. You can find those at e-bay. Just make sure that there is enough oil at the roller and the blade is in good contition or else the ink wil stick on the drum and you'll have print quality problems
Close Exit Cover to Continue error message won't go away
sounds to me like one of two things has happened.
More than likely the actuator tab on the cover snapped off,
Look for an opening around the edge of the cover , there is a cover interlock switch in there. Note its position and look at the cover to verify there is a tab on the cover to actuate the switch, Or you may have a loose connector on the interlock switch, or a bad switch, although I have never seen one of those switches go bad.
Phaser 8400 error
AC power supplied by power sources such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) or DC-to-AC inverter systems may not supply correct voltage to properly power up the printer. Likewise, other devices sharing the same AC circuit can cause AC voltage sags that cause the printer to fail its AC heater PEST tests (Print Engine Self Test). The printer may produce the following heater errors:
37,005.41: PEST - Printhead Reservoir 1 disconnect. Reservoir 1 is not drawing
the expected power from the supply.
If the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and you still get this error, the Printhead is bad and should be replaced.

Check the process drive gears for damage. Ensure the gears are correctly aligned and homed.
Check the nose cone alignment on the X-Axis motor. Is the nose cone aligned with the printhead shaft (left/right movement).
When you removed the square metal block from the printhead shaft on the Left side, did you reinstall it with the "dot" in the same orientation as the diagram above it shows with a check mark?

You can download the Print drivers from
HERE.
Make sure you select the PostScript Driver v

Uninstall previous drivers and Install it as a Local Printer. Please be aware that if you are using a Server/Client structure the this instalation should be done on the Print Server.
After all that you should be able to print in colour. As a test print an Image file and make sure you confirm colour is enabled on the printing preferences of the driver.
Alternative would be to print a test page from the driver. This will also show you the colour prints.

How to set up printer to print double sided.
First look at your printer identification.
You can see it in either the display or on the startup or configuration pages.
It must have a "D" in the name for you to be able to do automatic duplexing. i.e. 8400DN or 8400DX . Then you can scroll to printer setup
and select defaults, and then turn on the duplex, or double sided printing.
If yours does not have a "D" i.e. 8400, 8400N then you would need a new sim card to enable the duplex option.
