do troubleshooting on your hardware (lomega zip drive) to use on another computer that is 100% working with the maximum level.

if your hardware is detected on the computer fails, it does mean that it is problematic, and do a test on the USB cable using the USB cable that is 100% work on a computer that you do the test.
If the problem remains the same, do the test on your drive connectors, usually it is installed by using cassing, this requires you to provide a 100% working cassing. if the problems remain the same this means the main problem is the drivers, check driver of life expectancy and the producer or manufacturer of your drive for details on the repair or related services.

do re-installation of the driver or operating system and clean the virus activity. Usually the problem more easily solved in software by the user itself.

Recomendation: Replace for a external hard drive, The Zip drive is outdate. With theExternal HDD you gona have more space than a Zip drive, really much more.

First thing, while connected to the MacBook, highlight the drive, select "Get Info" , highlight the drive's icon, and select "Get Info" from the "File" menu in Finder. Click on the triangle next to "Ownership and Permissions" until the triangle points down (it may be this way first up). Now put a tick in the box next to "Ignore ownership and permissions".
Now "eject" it properly from the MaBook and connect it to the iMac.
It may now show up.
If not, head to Finder / Preferences and in the "General" and "Sidebar" tabs, make sure that drives are set to show in the finder and the sidebar.

If the disk is unreadable this means that the format or the files extensions on it are not readable in the operation system you use..either are damaged or the disk itself is damaged or it wasn't finalized like it should ...If other disks inserted run ok than the disk it is damaged and it is nothing wrong with the drive itself..When it says to insert a disk this means that it is not seeing the disk at all and it sounds like a drive problem ..but if other disks are ok ..than it is just a damaged disk or in a format unreadable ..beware if it a cd unit ..will not read dvd-es..or if it a dvd kind will not read large dvd-es (dual layer) or blue-ray disks..

The fact that this happened while using Time Machine is almost assuredly nothing but coincidence. You have significant file system damage, to the point that Disk Utility can't fix it. I'd recommend that you purchase and run DiskWarrior on the drive. DiskWarrior is an industrial-strength filesystem repair program that will fix things that Disk Utility cannot.
