belt probably broken. unplug from power and remove the plate from the bottom of cleaner.belt should be visible on one side or other.

The bottom plate covers the brushroll, the top cover must be removed to gain access th where the belt goes around the motor shaft. There are catches on each side that must be flexed out to allow the top cover to come off.

A belt melting usually means it is stretched out and so loose it is slipping on the brushroll or something is restricting the brushroll from turning freely.
