The firmware for any electronics device tells the hardware how to properly function.
Most devices rarely need a firmware upgrade, however, computer products such as a Seagate hard drive need to have the firmware updated periodically due to computers constantly going through operating system upgrades.
Luckily, you can update your Seagate hard drive firmware with an Internet connection and a few clicks of your mouse.
Connect your Seagate hard drive to your computer if the hard drive is external.
Launch your Internet browser and navigate to the Seagate.com website.
When the site loads click the "Downloads" button.
Click on the hard drive listing you currently own.
This brings up all of the most current downloads for your Seagate hard drive.
The listings of the hard drives have the image, so match your hard drive to the image online if you are not sure what drive you have.
The user manual states what hard drive you currently own also.
If you don't have your owners manual, open "My Computer" (or "Computer") and right-click the hard drive icon and select "Properties."
Here the computer states exactly what model of hard drive you have.
Click the Firmware update and click the "Download" button to launch the download.
Click-and-drag the file into the hard drive if you are using an external hard drive
(open "My Computer," then double-click the removable hard drive icon).
Open the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install the updated firmware.
Hope this helps
