I just installed a Stryker 490HP in my big truck,

RF feedback into the radio most likely from bad SWR or poor ground counterpoise at the antenna. Change out antenna to something more capable of use with this radio. Maybe a 102 stainless steel whip or Wilson 1000 or K40 type.

How to increse the watts?

Take your radio to a CB Shop and have them 'tune it up' or 'peak' it. It is usually a modest fee and will improve the transmit range of the radio. There are usually shops near truck stops, just ask around on channel 19 in the area if there is a shop nearby.

Some radios do better than others, there may not be a great improvement on your particular radio.

Just bought a 142gtl and looked it up online. I

Don't get crazy into mods. Some are good some are bad.

Really all you want to do is a peak and tune on it. The cobra 148 has great audio already. The most I would do to it is turn up the modulation all the way, and the AM power, then put a swing mod in. That will get you max wattage. 2 watt dead key.

Talkback is only necessary if you are going to be putting an echo board in so you can hear how the echo sounds.

I have a phillipinnes made 148gtl at first

there are 2 finals in this radio. one for side band, and one for AM. So if it works okay on side band, and not at all for AM, then the final for the AM side is bad. Replace it.

How do you wire atrb-x2 echo board in a cobra 29

don't worry about wire colors. pin 1 is ground. some mic's need two wires for ground depending on the PTT switch used. pin 2 audio. pin 3 TX pin 4 RX.. thats all there is too it. once you know the pins all radios are easy. galaxy/connex/genlee same pin outs except pin4 isnt' needed for RX but can be used for 9v dc to power micropohnes.

How do i set my knobsso my radio works

Turn the volume up about 1/3, the squelch off or fully counterclockwise. You should now hear static or talking,if not something is wrong with the radio. As a last resort change to channel 19 and see if it is dead as well. None of this is valid unless you have a proper antenna connection. When you are receiving then adjust the volume to a comfortable level and turn the squelch up, clockwise, until it just mutes when no one is talking. The higher the squelch the stronger the signal has to be to be heard.
Good Luck,

Modulation style woodspeaker

i am not sure what a wood speaker is ,unless you're talking about a home speaker.if you are coming through stereo
speakers take any excess wire on the speaker and coil it up as many small loops as you can and tape or wire tie them.this creates a trap.this works on just about any thing picking up you're signal.

I got a 142 cobra base i need to find 12 volt on

look at the power knob inside the radio. With the face, facing you, it should be the tab on the left. Depending on what year it is it could be a pinkish wire..

That is the switched 12v off the power knob. Use a digital multimeter to make sure.
