Garmin 201 forerunner no charge
That unit is probably 7-10 years old... it probably has a dead battery. either buy a new one or get out your special screw driver kit to see if the one inside can be ordered from someone like Batteries+ or Amazon.com

Forerunner 201 - none of buttons work - any ideas
I had the same issue, and as it was basically useless and would cost more to send away to have fixed, I decided to open up the unit. I put in a vice on an angle and it popped right open. I found the ribbon cable going to the buttons worked its way loose over years of use. There is a hard plastic tab that can be used to push this back in. I did this and it now works perfectly. I only recommend you do this after all other options do not work and you are not afraid of breaking the unit as it can be fragile. Hope this helps.

Garmin Forerunner 201 won't turn on
I had the same problem and this is what Garmin had me do. Charge it for 3 hours then try the reset again by holding RESET and POWER at the same time for 30 seconds. If still no-go the unit will have to be repaired. Garmin's base fixing price is about 80 dollars. I didn't want to pay that so I found a new one on eBay for 50 bucks.

I suggest updated the firmware; the historic changes (updates) solve this type problems:
* Changes made from version 2.20 to 2.30: Fixed problem with displaying a message in certain languages. For
example, a 'WEAK GPS SIGNALS' message in Dutch would cause the unit to
lock up.
Check recently upgrade in this link:

The battery on my 201 forerunner is only lasting
Hello,
It is actually meant to last for 15 hour per charge, and it lasting just 5-6 hours simply means it is either not fully charged or the battery is weak.
It uses a lithium ion rechargeable battery, and it can be replaced, you will have to open it up to be able to locate the battery.
If you are not familiar with such activities, i will strongly advice you get a repairman replace the battery for you.
Since taking a walk with it wont take up to 5-6 hours, it will be best you leave it that way, and try to recharge as soon as it drops, but if you use it for over that amount of time in a day then you can replace it. the battery is located right underneath the wrist band used in strapping the hand.
Take care
