GE 46GW945 46" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
It won't turn on
I would check the fuse first and if thats good then I would suspect the flyback transformer
My sound just went out
If this set has the Guide Plug logo printed on the front of the cabinet, unplug it from power and power it back.If that does not help look in the menu for SAP which is secondary audio program, that will mute sound on some channels and may be your problem. What do you have hooked to the set and how?By the way if you hook a DVD player to the rear jacks on the set and go to that input and have good sound the problem is not in sound circuit.
GE TV MODEL #52GW945---WONT TURN ON
Have someone check to see if the Horizontal output transistor is shorted==that and the high voltage transformer were common failure parts in this model
GE 46gw941
MOST likely a bad high voltage transformer or a Glycol leak both of which were common in this set and the parts for this set are nearly impossible to find (I think by the model number set is newer than 92).I liked these sets but I would not invest big money to fix one this old.
GE 46GW947 TV. Screen is
If you are able with the set on look into the three lens, what you are looking for is is there an visable liquid in any of the three lens on top?
These sets use a sealed area with Glycol, sometimes it leaks out so it is on top of the inside lens, DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE LENS COVER IF YOU SEE THIS.

The picture looks 3d.
Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.
The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

You will need to get to the control board and see if any of the front panel buttons are sticking. if they are not, you will have a bad switch or the remote sensor is defective. If you have no TV repair experience. you will need to consult a pro to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
I have a GE projection tv the picture has become concave
I know this set very well--you are describing a convergence problem and this set is prone to one fairly simple thing going wrong that causes this trouble.
I need to know if you have any knowledge about testing Diodes? The common problem in this set is there is inside ABOVE all the main circuit boards a smaller board held in with 4 screws; there are only a few plugs on the board. This board provides POWER to the convergence circuit.
On the far right side of the board are several small black diodes and TWO LARGER ONES----what usually happens is one of the two large ones shorts----if you locate them you check them like a fuse---if one reads like a fuse it is the bad one---it will have a location number on top of the board under it---give me the location number and I will Try to get you a part number---the diode if it is bad is 85% chance causing the convergence problem---over the years I have seen over 24 of these sets with this trouble.
THESE DIODES ALSO HAVE A GENERIC NUMBER ON THEM.
Let me know if you have questions and I will help you--keep in mind possible differences in Time as I am in California.

Tv turns off immediately after i try to turn it on
I know this set--worked on a lot of them when they were first new---THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM is the high voltage transformer fails--usually a dead set.
As you look from the back of the set it is a tan colored part about the size of your fist (located to the right side of the board on the far left--it has a large red wire coming out of the top of it)--if you hear a squeeking noise or not--it is the most common part to fail in this set.....RCA PART NUMBER IS : 239111---PART is no longer available from RCA but if you Google it on the internet---there are several places that have a replacement part for less than 15 dollars---
The way I used to attack this was to unsolder the transformer and try to turn set on--if it comes on it will not have a picture but if it does not shut down--you know either the transformer is bad or something right around it---note---I have seen over 100 of these sets with this part bad--number one part to fail in this set.
Let me know if you need any help or assistance.

Loud buzzing noise which became a very loud
This TV uses a lamp and color wheel. the color wheel is likely the problem since it is known to make noise over time and will eventually sieze. The repair is in the $400 range.
Popping noise and stopped working
ge version of rca itc222 is known to have a bad flyback transformer usally repaceing it and the horizontal output transistor is what required
After pushing the power button on there a chirping
hi, the chirping noise is either the switch mode transformer or the flyback transformer, more likely the flyback as thomson built sets are infamous for them failing, nothing you can do you`ll have to call a tech to verify which has failed, not a major repair job, gl, video-tek
